This was a treat from an unknown member of the Flossmoor Station Mug Club who brought a growler to last night’s tapping, forming an interesting contrast to the DIPA being consumed. It looked almost black in the glass, showing some brown around the edges, and had a smallish tan head. The aroma was of Frango Mints, chocolatey and minty, and brought back bad memories of Christmas shopping in days of yore. Only a light touch of Bourbon came through in the flavor. It was mainly Peppermint Patties (better memories here) with some coffee and dark caramel. A bit thin, over all. Not bad, but also not a brew that I would want a steady diet of.

Oily black pour with a nose of fresh mint and java. Flavors follow pretty much a straight line...mint, coffee, chocolate, touch of the bourbon barrel. Just OK.

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting brown head. Aromas of bourbon, mint, milk chocolate, light roastiness and a hint of coffee. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of mint, milk chocolate and light roastiness with a smooth lingering chocolate mint finish.

South shore bourbon barrel mint stout. 22oz bottle thanks to a recent trade... Pours a dark cola pour with lighter edges and roped with a thin light beige head... Aroma is slightly black licorice, mint through the middle with a slight bourbon bent in the finish... Flavors are thin with a light chocolate and mint bent. Too fluffy and lack of robust flavor. Barrel notes are a bit too assertive at the end adding a booziness that doesn’t mesh well with the consistency of the brew. 7/3/6/3/14

Smells of mint chocolate chip icecream. Finish is a combination of mint and hops.

On tap at the Great Lakes Brew Fest. Pours a dark black with red hints. Aroma is grassy, lemony, bourbon with chocolate. Watery flavors, chocolate grassy. Meh.

Bottle… Pours dark brown with a small, creamy, taupe head. Good retention. As expected, the bouquet is a bit odd – herbal sassafras, dark chocolate and a whisper of sourmash whiskey. Medium-bodied with laid-back carbonation. The flavor is chocolaty with a touch of mint and a mild, herbal, sarsaparilla component. Tilts just a tad toward the sweet side of balance. Things wrap up with nice mocha and a subtle kiss of acidity.

Thanks to Ughsmash for this rare tick... dark brown body with a light tan head, forms a ring, no lace... the nose is awesome, totally nails mint chocolate chip ice cream, no coffee or bourbon, the mint is a touch to strong comes off a bit chemically but I’m digging it... the taste is lighter, coffee with more mint, a little more balanced but too light so its a touch disappointing... worth trying if you love mint but other than that you can skip it

Deep brown, tan head. Aroma: milk chocolate, mint, bourbon. Flavor is similar with some cocoa as well. A little like chocolate chip mint ice cream.
