On tap at Old Hayward. Pours a golden honey color with average slightly off-white head. Aroma of honey and some sweet banana fruityness. Flavor was of fruity banana, sweet malts, honey and some grains. Very good... but only for one or two... then I would need to switch to something else.

Gitchee Gumee Brewfest 2005. Yay! Another Maibock. Fortunately, this one fared okay, as it had some character, depth and color. Aroma danced of maple syrup, like the color of the beer. Flavors were spicy with a little grape must in the background. I can appreciate his Maibock. It finishes lingering and sugary (but not too much so). I think they found the right hops balance on this particular brew.

On-tap at the brewpub: Serving a Maibock in February, OK then, I’ll give it a try...hmm...glad I did. One of the better beers I’ve had from South Shore. Great color thats a murky cloud of dark golden honey with a firmly set medium sized ivory cap. Lacing coats the glass in all sorts of spotting and broken sheeting. Looks very appetizing. Smell is a little lacking but clean with subdued sweet buttery toast and accents of banana skins and apricot. Nice balance and easy going flavors to be had here; clean and well rounded with a subtle play between a slight toasty malt and a fruity malt. Touches and mixes of banana, barley flake, unsalted buttered toast, dryish and dull pear, toffee, and apricot. Finishes lightly chewy with subdued fruity sweetness. Feel is about medium; clean, smooth, and easy going with a decent chewy slick coating that sticks just right. A good drinker to boot, goes down without much effort. This could be a sign of things to come from South Shore; or at least I hope, most of the beers I’ve had from them break beyond the average tilt but aren’t all that impressionable. This is a step in the right direction though.
