3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 b3shine (2256) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 1, 2012
Bottle to pint (from notes). Looks solid; pretty heady for a stout though. Pitch black. Smells decent; malty. Tastes good. The lactose serves it well. Nice and smooth. Mouthfeel is decent, but very carbonated. Overall, a decent beer that I’d definitely have again.

Bottle at South Shore Brewery. Thick black pour almost no head. Malty chocolate subtle nose, good mouthfeel (very little carbonation) and a robust stout character. Smooth, chocolate malt with a nice balance of hops - just a touch sweet.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 jebert (407) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 8, 2012
Pours an opaque black with a small creamy light brown head. Nose is malt and molasses. Very creamy on the palate, the tast is of dark roasted malts, molasses, chocolate with a hint of hops on the end for a dry finish. A very good beer for all scholars or non-scholars alike. Pairs well with steak sandwiches.

Bottle shared by B3C. Poured a black color with an average to large frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt and chocolate aroma. Medium chocolate sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a good beer that met my expectations.

Dark black body with a tan head. Smells of Malta and coffee. Taste follows. More coffee than I expected
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 madvike (2090) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 31, 2011
Bottle - Pours mahogany with a thin tan head. Sweet vanilla dominates the nose, with light roast and a touch of milkiness. Taste is pretty limp. There’s the same vanilla note, but with ashy and burnt malt dominating. A little whiskey sweetness creeps into the finish. Overall it tastes really watery--the mouthfeel is way off. Pretty carbonated and nowhere near full-bodied. Was this bottle off?

Received in trade from azaaron, thanks for the opportunity. The bottle opened with a noticeably load pop, no foam over, but the first pour filled my glass with foam. It took a good 15 minutes from opening until I was able to sample this brew. Pours a solid dark brown color with faint ruby highlights when held to light. Aromas of light chocolate, caramel and tart fruit. Not a whole lot going on in the aroma. The taste has all the right players in the game. Roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and caramel with a modicum of dark fruits. The mouthfeel is ruined by the over carbonation every sip has co2 sharply piercing the front of my tongue and sometimes expanding bubbles fill my mouth. Medium bodied beer. Once the bubbles settled down this became quite a tasty brew. I’d love to try another of these sometime and re rate.

Pours dark brown almost black with off white head, fizzy carbonation. Aroma has notes of roast, some crystal malt, touch of chocolate. Taste is a bit thin, but has notes of chocolate, dark fruit, caramel, before finishing roasted. Not bad, a bit watery and thin, but overall decent flavors.
