COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our only named beer to date. Its' honorary status is in tribute to its' designer, Allen Rhoades, a fellow brewer who captured a blue ribbon at the Western Washington State Fair when it was entered as a homebrew. It's everything a stout should be. Rich and hearty, not thick and overpowering, comes complete with a creamy head. Chocolate and crystal malts along with roasted barley combine to create the wonderful flavor. Compliments deserts well: try one in place of a cup of coffee.

Bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is roasty. Flavor is chocolate, roasted malt, a bit of coffee at he end. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, pretty creamy and smooth. Overall, my only complaint is that it isn’t thicker. Good stout.

BOTTLE: room temp. Pours black with lively tan head, quickly dissipates. Aroma is not very strong but definite roastedness. Flavor packs a punch of roasted barley and cocoa. Palate is bubbly but short lived. A decent stout.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of my Secret Santa. Pours a dark, dark brown color with a large tan head that patiently fades into a creamy crown. The aroma is roasted malt and mediumsweet dark chocolate. The flavor is also heavy on the roasted malt and dark chocolate. Additionally, a significant shot of coffee slips in at the end. Medium to full bodied and creamy smooth drinking brew. This is a solid stout indeed.

Black with barely existent medium brown head. More bubbly head that Guinness or a nitrogen-tapped stout. Aroma is all roast with some hints of cocoa. Very bitter for a stout, but quite good too. Very full mouthfeel. I like it!

Aroma is a lot of black licorice. Ick. Luckily that faded once it warmed. Roasty and fruity, not bad at all. Received a few free bottles at Muskie Capital in Hayward. "Road Sodies"!

I wasn’t very impressed with this beer, particularly when there are so many truly superior stouts out there. I found it to have a rather good smokey taste (think that Schlenkerla smoked sausage taste), but with a thin mouthfeel and some rather strange off-odors, like a lot of vinousness. Appearance was pretty good; this beer had an abundant tan head and a black body of medium thickness. Aroma was not so good. There was a lot of liquorice notes, but also a cheap vodka smell which reminded me of hydrogen peroxide and I believe was a vinous off-note. Flavor was inhibited by a very flat mouthfeel, but was like a rauchbier…smokey like summer sausage. Still, if I wanted smokey, I’d choose a real rauchbier, and if I wanted a really good stout, I think I’d choose something different. I got this bottle at 3 Cellars in Franklin, WI.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2007 Not sure if I maybe got a bad bottle. Poured from the bottle with a vanishing dark tan head. Fizzy like cola. Tasted like someone mixed a cup of strong coffee with a Coca-Cola. I’ll give it a week and see if another bottle works better. RE-RATED 12/15/07: Original Score 2.2. Tried again, figuring it cannot be that bad. Now, this is more like it! Nice dark pour, a little thin-bodied, almost like a Porter, with a thin creamy white head. Still medium bodied overall. Aroma is smoky/coffee. flavor is spicy, which is helped by the relatively high amount of carbonation. Nice finish. This is a pretty good Stout from a brewery I am going to try more from!

Tasted 10/2/07. 12oz bottle. Pitch and inky black. Aromas of toast and coffee. Touch peppery. Nice nose. Medium to full bodied with a nice rolling palate. Sticky good. Spicy brew. Coffee and vanilla flavors. Chocolate and dry fruits. Tight effervescence. Toasty. Sticky sweet with a nice anise note. Good roast, nice body, Good Stout!
