COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our only named beer to date. Its' honorary status is in tribute to its' designer, Allen Rhoades, a fellow brewer who captured a blue ribbon at the Western Washington State Fair when it was entered as a homebrew. It's everything a stout should be. Rich and hearty, not thick and overpowering, comes complete with a creamy head. Chocolate and crystal malts along with roasted barley combine to create the wonderful flavor. Compliments deserts well: try one in place of a cup of coffee.

Pours black with almost no head. Very little carbonation. Aroma is quite good. Burnt malts, cocoa, light coffee, and roasted nuts. Flavor is full roasted malts and nuts, raw coffee, and some ripened fruits (maybe bananna). Mouthfeel seemed just a tad thin but still is an overall really good stout.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2007 Not sure if I maybe got a bad bottle. Poured from the bottle with a vanishing dark tan head. Fizzy like cola. Tasted like someone mixed a cup of strong coffee with a Coca-Cola. I’ll give it a week and see if another bottle works better. RE-RATED 12/15/07: Original Score 2.2. Tried again, figuring it cannot be that bad. Now, this is more like it! Nice dark pour, a little thin-bodied, almost like a Porter, with a thin creamy white head. Still medium bodied overall. Aroma is smoky/coffee. flavor is spicy, which is helped by the relatively high amount of carbonation. Nice finish. This is a pretty good Stout from a brewery I am going to try more from!

12 oz bottle from Jeffy’s neighbor Fred, thanks man! Pours a solid balck body with a larger beige frothy head, nice. Aroma has some nice raostiness and vanilla extract but then there is this slightly weird sour powdered milk scent mixed in. Flavor is really nice with lots of roasty malts, burnt toast, dark chocolate and vanilla. Medium to fuller bodied with slightly strong carbonation and a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Very nicely done.

Guerde (1074) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - JUL 7, 2007
Pours dark with a ruby hue around the edge of the glass, and a tan head that disappears. Aroma is very similar to Sam Smith’s Imperial, probably due to the roasted barley. Flavor is quite similar to Sam Smith’s as well, but the beer is a little more carbonated and slightly drier, with the roasted barley appearing along with notes of coffee and dark chocolate.

Draft at The Old Fashioned. Opaque black with an oily head. Pleasant coffee aroma. Smooth and mellow body, somewhat dry. Roasty with a subdued cocoa edge. Easy drinking, but full bodied enough to slowly sip. Solid Stout, with some coffee edges. Well done.

Pours a rich oily opaque with a thin tan head. Aroma is lightly caramely sweet and very roasty with hints of dark fruit complexity. Body starts robust and silky with a nice malty sweetness before a bittersweet, mildly dry, roasted finish. Very nice for a regular stout. A little more malt and this could be imperial.

Bottle from BBB63: Quite the foamer, exploded out of the glass and onto the floor. Nose was full of coffee, dark roasted. hints of anice and vanilla, quite a complex stout! Oaky and woody towards the finish. It is light, though, but I think the big tastes just make me expect it to be thicker bodied. I wish most of it wouldn’t have overflowed!!!

Dark brown color with no head and little carbonation. Coffee aroma. Sweet chocolate and coffee taste with a good malty kick as well. Tasty!

What Chuck said on appearance, it needs lacing to get a 5. The aroma is pretty much the same, although I get a huge cocoa aroma too. The flavor is very chocolatey and roasted, dry roasted malt. The palate is lightly bitter and dry, medium full mf.
