Our only named beer to date. Its' honorary status is in tribute to its' designer, Allen Rhoades, a fellow brewer who captured a blue ribbon at the Western Washington State Fair when it was entered as a homebrew. It's everything a stout should be. Rich and hearty, not thick and overpowering, comes complete with a creamy head. Chocolate and crystal malts along with roasted barley combine to create the wonderful flavor. Compliments deserts well: try one in place of a cup of coffee.

Pours an opaque black with a small creamy light brown head. Nose is malt and molasses. Very creamy on the palate, the tast is of dark roasted malts, molasses, chocolate with a hint of hops on the end for a dry finish. A very good beer for all scholars or non-scholars alike. Pairs well with steak sandwiches.

04-May-14 (12-oz bottle: Obtained in trade with hopdog, thanks Steve!)
This Stout pours a black body and half an inch of tan head that settles to a ring. The nose is sweet and unexpectedly fruity, having a dried cherry character, but also lots of chocolate, so it smells like chocolate-covered cherries, but also coconut like an Almond Joy. For added complexity, there’s also a nice savory character, some cigar box, even a little grilled meat. On the palate, too, the sweet-and-sour cherry aspect jumps out, maintaining a prominent front from entry to finish. More typical flavors of dark chocolate, tobacco, dark toast, grilled meat, coconut, and brown sugar provide savory complexity and balance. Medium sweet is countered by mild roasty bitterness. The beer is full bodied and has a rich, creamy, round mouthfeel, and carbonation is light-medium. Overall, with the cherry imagery, it’s a little different from what I was expecting, but in a good way. Really enjoyable.

Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, milk chocolate and light coffee. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, cocoa and light coffee with a smooth lingering cocoa finish.

Poured into a shaker from 12oz bottle. Nice head and lacing. Dark fruit flavors, chocolate and caramel. Nicely rounded and by far my favorite from south shore.

This is a better than average stout. Dark in character, rich and roasty. Nothing particularly distinctive, but everything on tack.

Among the few stouts I’ve encountered that has a taste and body weight sufficiently balanced enough to allow for multiple bottles in a single sitting. The chocolate malts dominate the aroma although there are hints of caramel. Sweet and semi-dry finish.

Bottle to pint (from notes). Looks solid; pretty heady for a stout though. Pitch black. Smells decent; malty. Tastes good. The lactose serves it well. Nice and smooth. Mouthfeel is decent, but very carbonated. Overall, a decent beer that I’d definitely have again.

Bottle at South Shore Brewery. Thick black pour almost no head. Malty chocolate subtle nose, good mouthfeel (very little carbonation) and a robust stout character. Smooth, chocolate malt with a nice balance of hops - just a touch sweet.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2012 Opaque black body. Little head disapates quickly. Aroma dark fruits, brown sugar, dark chocolate. Creamy mouth feel. Taste subtle notes of dark fruits, dark chocolate, citrus, with a smokey roasted bitter finish. As it warms up to room temp chocolate more noticeable. Good brew
