Skyview (2901), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA May 21, 2007 Third stop during May ’07 brewpub tour, brought us to the South Shore Brewery in Ashland, WI. This is should be listed as "South Shore Belgium Tripel." Pour a semi-clear dark golden yellow brew with a thin white head that dissolves quickly to a fine film and nice lacing. Aroma of caramel, banana, medium roasted malt and a touch of yeast. Taste is very sweet, with character of caramel, burnt brown sugar, and hardly any hops. Finish is sweet, yeasty and no bitterness. Due to high alcohol level, the brewpub could not package beverage in a growler. It would have been a terrific product for our local rating group.
BDR (1903), Roseville, Minnesota, USA May 24, 2007 On tap at Wilmarths Deepwater Grille. Yellow color with tinges of orange and a fiant malty nose with sweet brown sugar and faint floral hops. JohnnyOS (625), Golden, Wisconsin, USA Dec 19, 2006 On tap at Deepwater. Pours medium gold with faint white head. Aroma of yeast, honey, grains, and fruit. Slightly sweet, with a crisp light strong finish. muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Sep 16, 2006 Draught sample at the brewpub, late July 2006. Medium gold with a touch of head lasting, small lacing....sweet, honey-yeasty aroma, banana-apple esters present, at first it bears a lot of resemblance to the hefe but the spicy Belgian yeast does distinguish ultimately....very sweet on the tongue, light alcohol present throughout, oaky with a stronger booze presence to finish....thick, not quite cloying, gets quite harsh and peppery/bitter when near room temperature.
