COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This mahogany colored, full-bodied brew is modeled after a 17th century english old ale. Rich malt flavor dominates the palate. At 6.3% ABV this ale may not absolve your sins, but it will help you forget them. 36 IBU

Draft. Pours brown with an off white head. Sweet and fruity aroma with light tasty malty notes. The flavor has light sweet malts, toffee, toast, and some light bitterness in the finish. Not bad.

Tap at brewery. Poured a dark ruby/brown color, off-white head. Aroma was sweet, slightly roasted malts, touch of earthy hops finish. Flavor is sweet, earthy, creamy, slight roasted and cocoa note. Not too hoppy, but quite an enjoyable brew.

Mahogany with tan head and lace. Light dried fruit aroma. Flat fruit, sweet roasted malt. Thin and fizzy but very drinkable.

On tap at the brewpub: Clear copper orange with a stringy off-white head. Has a sweet toasty caramel nose with some light piny hop notes. Starts with good toasty caramel malty sweetness and a touch of light fruity complexity and earthy resiny bittering hops before a bittersweet finish. A pretty good brew that falls on the lighter side of old ales.

(Sample Date: 1/17/2009 Source: Missing ) Sampler at the brewery. Malty vanilla aroma slightly vegetal. Clear very dark mahogany brown. Interesting combination. Malty and slightly vegetal.

Had this on tap at South Street Brewery in Charlottesville, VA. Pours medium brown. Smelled malty, sweet. The flavor is lacking hops, giving it a very one-dimensional feel. Mostly malt, a little bit of spice, and a mild alcohol flavor. Not a bad offering from this brewery, but I am largely unimpressed with South Streets offerings.

Of course you need this after you drink the satans pony! Draft at the brewpub. Not hoppy, but does have some bitterness on the tail end. Dark rum soaked fruit was wonderful in the aroma and okay in the flavor. Tasty, but nothing special. Alcohol was evident on this one.

1/2 growler courtesy of dkachur. Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of caramel, brown sugar, dark fruit, spice. Tastes of pepper, chocolate, spice, earthy and dry. Full bodied and enjoyable with a hint of sweetness on the finish. Excellent.
