Atomas of toast, biscuit, caramel, subtle cocoa, subtle berry fruit. Clear bronze, head fully fading. Some initial fruitiness, bready, toasty. Quite clean, light-medium bodied.

Dried leaves, caramel, bran nose, hearty. Clear dark copper, thin head. Bran cereal flavor, lightly sweet. Excceptionally true to style, at least the way I view amber ales.

(2012 US backlog, recollected in abstinent tranquility) Tapped pint@source 14/09/2012. Reminded me of flat Palm with a helping of root beer. Watery, with diffusely aimed toffee and roast notes popping up. "Mild", hence "our most popular selection"? Satan’s Pony is not a stallion to-be, but a gentle buck mercifully rescued from the glue factory.

Enjoyed a taste of this beer while in the brewpub in Charlottesville, VA. The beer had a mostly clear copper color with a touch of dark amber and a smaller foamy white head with short retention, modest cling and good lacing. It had a rich malty caramel and floral blend aroma mixed with a lighter grain and cereal characteristic, but was slightly muted overall. The taste was a somewhat sweet caramel malt flavor with a slighter grainy-earthy bitterness, and a touch of cereal sourness. The beer was wet and had a watery body with a lighter, average-to-thin mouthfeel, along with low carbonation and fizz.

Sample on tap at the brewpub. Light citrus, tropical fruit. Smooth lighter carbonation. Dry finish. Toasty caramel malts. Mild bitter. Fine but uninteresting amber.

Draft. Pours amber with an off white head. Sweet caramel malty aroma with some lighter hoppy notes. The flavor is well balanced, with caramel malts, some light fruity notes, and floral hops. Decent.

Tap at brewery. Poured a light amber color, small white head. Aroma was sticky, sweet malts, light hint of hops. Boring, but still drinkable.

On tap at the brewpub in July 2009. Reviewed from notes. Pours a moderate amber color with a thin white head and not much lacing. The nose brings forward some really faint notes of caramel and some bread. The flavor doesn’t produce much more, as there is really just some toasted bread and light caramel. Decent feel with adequate carbonation, but there really isn’t much here to carry through. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-26-2010
