RCL (855), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Apr 11, 2008 Quite dry, yet still quite rich malty flavor. Mostly nutty flavor is slightly marred by a metallic twinge. Still pretty good, though.

Murky brown in color with an average head. Sweet molasses and malt in the nose. Flavor is mild and malty. Very balanced. Not a loud, outspoken, "punch you in the face" brew - but it is still good. djrn (36), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA Apr 21, 2008 This was a great beer. Very smooth and really tasty with some nutty and malty sweetness. I want more! waolsen (858), Littleton, Colorado, USA Apr 8, 2008 bottle. compliments Maxxdaddy. great bottle. mahogony pour with thin frothy light tan head. raisons and dried cherries, nutty malts, liquorice, yeast aroma. medium body, robust flavor, excellent balance. rich maltiness, carmalized sugars, rich subtle chocolate, figs and raison, maple, and mild spicy finish. Truely excellent beer. brewandbbq (153), USA Apr 8, 2008 Vintage 2006
A very snug cork removal with no pop, and a slowly gushing upheaval of foam. Hmmmm.
Pours dark amber with fine particulates in suspension, and a inch-plus creamy head of beige.
Aromatics are cocoa-laden, with hints of dark rum, nougat, raisins, and plump malt.
Slightly phenolic with hints of Belgian character.
Creamy, chewy and sticky mouthfeel. Akin to cream soda.
Rich, juicy malt, caramel, brown sugar, cocoa, and raisins fill the pallet.
Mild alcohol notes pull through, and barely warm the throat.
A mineral-spiked metallic bitterness follow through, and become a bit detracting as you get into the beer and it warms up.
Finishes warming, with residuals and rum-soaked raisins.
Old ale? Lacking any vineous or lightly lactic character found in most examples, and leans more in a Belgian Dubble direction.
Tasty nonetheless, if you can overlook the metallic/mineral tinge.
