(Rating #1663) stefanje (389), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA May 3, 2008 Bottle at Toncatcher’s tasting. Poured a rich copper color with medium beige head that lasted a fair while. The aroma was big and bold with dark fruits, barley, caramel and Belgian yeast. The flavor was overtly sweet and mellow with well balanced dark fruits, caramel and a touch of vanilla. The mouthfeel was extraordinarily smooth and creamy, I am reminded of the palate of the Westy 12. The finish was long with lingering sweet caramel. Overall: Awesome brew. The biggest surprise of the night for me. Must get more. sunevdj (1262), Copenhagen, Denmark Apr 28, 2008 DLD Pours a hazy brown with a tanned head. Very sweet aromas of plums, dates and figues. Full bodied with a sticky mouthfeel. Dry finish with some figue aromas. Very nice. JK (2262), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Apr 26, 2008 A big thanks to Stine for sharing a bottle of a beer I have wanted to try for years. First, I think this was too young. It is sugary sweet, even in a style that tends to be sweet, and it would probably benefit from a year or two in the cellar. But this is still something special. Very nice fruit and malt aroma with Belgian yeast. Thick and heavy palate with loads of malt. Fruit and yeast in the flavor, lots of malt, and exceptionally full palate and great, smooth mouthfeel. Brown it color, it left a nice lacing on the glass and had a tall head that took some time to fall down. OSLO (515), Minnesota, USA Apr 26, 2008 [Bottle, thanks Stine!] Pours hazy brown-amber with a small white head. The aroma has a lot of yeast, raisin, and some caramel. The taste is really sweet--like syrup almost. Once again, the raisin was very prevalent, with the yeast much more toned down than in the aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a decent finish. This was fairly good, but I’m not a fan of syrupy sweet beers usually, and this one definitely fits that description.
