PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Nov 8, 2006 Not crazy about this one. Found a bottle on Long Island in Shore Line. 2006 version. Pours a deep brown/burgundy with short lived, very loud popping head. The aroma isn’t bad with hints of buttery toffee malt, raisins, alcohol, yeast. It’s very carbonated, artificial soda like mouthfeel (unpleasant). Very sweet maltyness. Thick brown sugar, toffee, with a touch of yeast in the background. Predominantly syrupy sweetness, seems artificial. Maybe some rum soaked, sugary raisins when it warms. And I also poured this at cellar temperature (around 50-55 degrees F). Harsh burning on the throat. I didn’t pick up on any complexity which you would expect from a quadrupel. Dissappointing. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA Nov 2, 2006 Botte CTV3 shared by sliffy, thanks! Brownish-orange pour with an off white head. Aroma of caramel malt, yeast, and lemon zest. The flavor corrilates fairly well with the aroma with the yeast, malt and some rasin coming through. Smooth over the palate with some decent carbonation and a sweet finish. sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 30, 2006 Bottle thanks to CaptainCougar: red brown pour with a white head. Aroma, yeasty, some molassas and other sugars, corriander, some fruits. Flavor, yeasty, molassas, raisins, some alcohol and spice. Quite good. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Oct 21, 2006 GABF 2006. Ruby brown. Small tanned head. Aroma consisting of caramel, dark fruits, cocoa, sweet malts, and candi sugar. Taste is more caramel and sweetich maltiness, dark fruit notes, light spice and floral notes, some yeast, dusty cocoa, bittersweet chocolate and soft alcohol. Body is medium-full. There’s a moderate carbonation feel that makes itself present after several samples. Ends with more dark fruits, caramel, hint of brown sugar, cocoa, and light alcohol. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Oct 14, 2006 Hazy brown, dirty looking. Aroma is huge caramel, candi sugar, one diminsional but good. Taste is earthy, spicy malts, brown sugar. Balanced ethanol. Finish is stronger ethanol. Nice breadiness, hints of esters. Medium body, light oiliness. Yum! beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Oct 9, 2006 2003 vintage. This Belgian Quad pours a deep reddish brown color from a 750ml bottle. Small sized beige foamy head. Aroma is dark malt, raisins, molasses, chocolate, brown sugar, caramel and a touch of alcohol. Medium to full-bodied quad. Malts are fruity and chocolate, raisins, dark fruit, touch of vanilla, brown sugar, etc etc. Nicely balanced. Very smooth. Hides the alcohol very well only a touch in the finish. Excellent sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA Oct 2, 2006 pours to a cloudy off brown color w/ no real head. Odd to place aroma well blended and mellow sweet fruity notes dominate mapybe pear or apricot some banannas foster and an odd spice. Hard to place but nice. Palate is full and well coated. Flavor is sweet candied sugars, bananna bread, dough, alcohol, good but over rated in my eyes. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Oct 2, 2006 GABF 2006. Bottle. Um yeah. This was on my want list for awhile now, but wow, was I down. The stuff wasn’t that good. The beer pours to a dark glowing with yellow highlights caramel colored body with lots of slow visible carbonation and a fizzy white head. The aroma is pretty light for the style. Light baked bananas and subtle spicing/yeast. Too light. The flavor is homemade caramel, light banana and dark yeasts. Light yeasty estery palate. Slick and velvety.
