GABF 2006. Bottle. Um yeah. This was on my want list for awhile now, but wow, was I down. The stuff wasn’t that good. The beer pours to a dark glowing with yellow highlights caramel colored body with lots of slow visible carbonation and a fizzy white head. The aroma is pretty light for the style. Light baked bananas and subtle spicing/yeast. Too light. The flavor is homemade caramel, light banana and dark yeasts. Light yeasty estery palate. Slick and velvety.

Several samples at GABF 06. Clear copper brown color with some whisps of a head. Earthy spicey hops, light roasted malts, and some dark sugars are present in both aroma and flavor. Alcohol is apparent but subdued. Surely something to be added to my cellar.

Bottle from 2003! This beer pours a dark mahogany brown with deep ruby colors with a quickly dissipating pearlish white head and decent lacing. Aroma is dark currants, raisins, chocolate, oak, alcohol, plums, grapefruit, twigs. Ohhhhhhhhh yeah.....that is one fantastically developing beer. Caramel and sweetness are all over the place on this one with a nice alcohol burn. Vanilla, marshmellow and graham cracker..like an adult smores. Flavors just get even more prevalent as it warms. Caramelized sugar everywhere! Carbonation levels are well in check, incredibly smooth finish.

2006 - dark brown with a off-white head. raisins, molasses, chocolate, yeast in the nose. soy sauce, coffee, molasses/brown sugar. alcohol becomes more apparent as it warms. nice smooth mouth-feel very pleasant to drink, and a great way to get drunk vs. the yuengling and molson otherwise circling my house’s party.

A murky brown appearance. The aroma consists of raisins, chocolate, and caramel. The flavor is molasses, grapes, brown sugar, with a slight alcohol burn. The finish is sweet. This was a good beer.

21.05.06 Jimmack Invitational ’06 One the few SH beers lately that I really enjoy, and I’m surprised to see that I’ve yet to rate it. Luckily, I’ve got notes. Root beer brown color with smaller but lingering head of medium bubbles, evenly dispersing. The aromas are not typical quad, as the beer is reminding me foremost of a milder dubbel with more fruity yeast presence than dark fruits and nuts. As it warms, I’m proved wrong and the beer explodes wtih figs, prunes, raisins, fresh plums, ripe pears, caramelized, and yummy winter breads. The palate is spot on for a quad, at once lively in its eff and fully coating the palate. Flavors run the gamut of aromas, very good consistency, and the yeast becomes wonderfully important to the complexity of the stuff. With even more temp, the alcohol becomes all to familiar, but at elast this one doesn’t have the diacetyl issues present in so many of SH’s beers. I’d drink this again without hesitation.
