Commercial Description:
Southampton Abbot 12 is our version of a Belgian Abbey-style Dark Ale. This unique style of ale is referred to as "Quadruple" and is brewed by only a few Belgian Trappist breweries. Southampton Abbot 12 is made with imported ingredients and is formulated to allow the beer to age for several years in the bottle.

2006 Bottle from a trade a while back(?). Dark cherry reddish brown with nice big head. Nice sweet malt aroma with hints of belgian yeast and the goodness to come. Taste goes beyond what the aroma was offering. Not overly sweet, and just a great yeasty flavor with some dark fruit. After letting it warm up a little I can smell and taste lots of brown sugar and a decent kick of alcohol. Light carbonation and decent thickness. Lovely. Rivals the trappist beers for quality.

no head to speak of, but it sits on a nice reddish brown body. flavor is very fruity, but a ripe fruitiness (cherries and raisens)rich and sweet, but not cloying.

Bottle thanks to JB175. Pours with a huge, fluffy, off-white head and a clear brown body (too light for the style). Good lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, brandy, bananas, pears, spices, some bubblegum, dates and molasses. Taste is sweet throughout with dark fruits some alcohol, spices, molasses, sherry, and raisins. Warming, with a creamy mouthfeel and lively bubbles.

The aroma contains definite alcohol with a hint of molasses and dough and dark fruits. The head is off-white and rocky with good lacing. The body is clear and bronze. The initial flavor is sweet with a long lightly bitter finish. The palate has a medium body, a syrupy finish, lively carbonation, and a heavily alcoholic feel.

750 mL bottle shared by kiefdog. Wow. Big sweetness and flavor in this one. Pours a dark brown/ amber color with a creamy off-white head. Sweet caramel, sugar, bourbon, alcohol, and cinnamon in aroma. Very syrupy mouthfeel with sugar in the flavor and finish, along with all of the qualities listed in the aroma. Very distinguished quad.
