Commercial Description:
Most folks from the Northeast go to Florida when November arrives. But not the Southampton brewmaster, Phil Markowski. Back in 1995, Phil headed to Düsseldorf, Germany to taste the famous altbiers of the region. "Alts" are unique: less fruity than most ales but with a crisp drinkability of a lager. So what did Phil bring back from his trip? Authentic German ingredients and a recipe for an altbier that will surprise your senses. One taste and you’ll be happy that Phil decided not to go to Florida, too.

Pours dark reddish amber with a thin, fully receding tan head. Aroma of grainy caramel, grassy hops, and light toffee flavors. Taste is crystal malt, caramel, some fruity notes of dates and nuts, light herbal hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft carbonation. Enjoyable and easy to drink Alt.

Bottle. Clear copper with a hint of red. Thin tan head. Light sweet caramel aroma with a mild spice way in the background. Mostly light palate. Very light caramel notes, slight sour turn at the end. Not a whole lot of flavor, but a nice Kolsch.

This is part of a beer club. Had only one bottle but was decent for the price. Poured great and had a nice finish. Would do again.

Pours a clear dark ruby brown with no head. Nose is malty and sweet. Overall subdued. Flavor is just a touch of wood with a fair portion of sweet and a metallic aftertaste. Feel is low on the bubble, but a decent thicker liquid feel. I have to say that this one falls a bit short. I know Southampton puts out some good stuff, but this isn’t really one of them.

Pours a clear, dark maroon, with a bubbly off white head. Smells fairly malty, with some mild caramel, and light fruits. Mild overall. The flavor has a little bitter tartness to it. Definite malt presence, but the hops really seem to make an appearance. Altbier’s usually arent that exciting to me, but this one seems pretty well crafted. The finish is slightly bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Not bad.

Color looks great, decent smell, but not much going on. Malty smell and finish might have a little caramel/toffee in there. Hardly any carbonation.

Pour: amber brown. Head: creamy off white. Aroma: sweet, caramel malt, brown sugar. Flavor: sweet, some must, caramel, some hops. Palate: some carbonation, could have been better. Finish: abrupt.
