A variation on a traditional Framboise. Aged in wine barrels for 21 months and blended to produce a classic profile.

Not super sour, funky, or blackberry-y. But it is a nice easy drinking fruit ale.

UPDATED: AUG 14, 2013 Enjoyed another (properly labeled!) bottle last week and felt the need to update my rating. Taking this from a 4.0 to a 4.2 because itís jammy as hell and tastes much better than Framboos í11.

Original rating: Opened alongside an incorrectly labeled bottle of Southampton IRS (which is definitely this BRL, not a stout).

Fantastically tart, fruity aroma. Fresh fruit, super jammy. Finishes sharp and clean. Superb balance; easily one of my favorite American sours.

(Draught) Pours a murky reddish brown body with a small pink head. Aroma of raspberry, yogurt, pie crust, vanilla, and vinous. Flavor of raspberry, lacto, pedio, and blackberry with a dry finish.

In short: An intensely fruity and intensely sour purple ale. Excellent but really intense.
How: Bottle 750ml, shared at post-Friday HF Harvest VIP 2012 party.
The look: Cloudy purple body topped by a tiny ring of foam.
In long: Nose is quite intense, loads of fruits (not particularly raspberries) and sourness jumping out of the glass. Taste is loaded with fruits, I noted blackberries, dark cherries, raspberries. blueberries, blackcurrant. Suffice to say this is a very fruity beer but I didnít think raspberry flavors dominated although it is the only fruit used. A little sweet on attack but the sweetness is quickly overwhelmed by the intense sourness that felt part lactic and unfortunately also part acetic. Light farmhouse character overall. Thick heavy body that could have used a little more carbonation. Intense stuff here, an excellent beer that could have been even better if dialled down a notch or two. The speed at which I pull out my glass when a good beer is being passed around makes me the Clint Eastwood of beer tasting.

Bottle 750ml. Pours dirty ripe cherry/dark purple with no head. Aroma is of raspberries, sweetness. Taste is of raspberries, intense sourness, sweet, tart. Palate: ligth body. Overall: OK. Unidimensionnal. Iím not impressed, but iíd say itís a good effort. I was expecting more because of the high ratings.

THE Fruit Sour tasting. Thanks Jack for this rarity. Cloudy purple red beer, tiny pink head. Blackberry jam nose. Palate is crisp and dry. Sour white wine, blackberry. A little lemon. Dry finish. Itís fine - not too aggressive.

Pours cloudy ruby red red with frothy pinkish head, that head is much smaller than it was a year ago. Aroma brings more funk now, but has plenty of juicy berry notes as well. The flavor brings big juicy berry notes as well, which have calmed down just a tad and body has dried out a bit as well. It got even more sour with a nice tart ending.
