12-oz. Thanks j! Pours a crystal clear medium amber. Loose white sudsy head. Big bright orange marmalade floral nose. Chalky fizzy medium body. Perfect marmalade on toast mid palate. Mild finish on a chalky feel. Good beer.

Bottle:   Amberish, a bit fiery, clear, large frothy off-white head, nice lacing.   Somewhat of a soft biscuity nose, hops are a bit weak, tea like perhaps.   Not a sharp or strong IPA from the smell of it.   Soft bitterness up front, a touch of earth, a touch of tea leaves.   Not very bright, yet not dull.   Seems more of a Pale Ale to me, but then again I live in the land of Hops.   Towards the back there is a little bit of citrus coming through, which is nice.   Seems to have more going on with the tongue than on the nose.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes clean, soft hops linger... very soft.   Nice citrus based malt sweetness also presides.   Decent IPA, but could stand to be a bit sharper and more vibrant on the nose.

Bottle. Amber with a medium, dense white head. Aroma is spicy hops, floral hops, caramel and tea leaves. Taste is spicy hops, floral hops, big caramel, toasted malt, tea, and soft citrus. Body is medium with a strong, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more tea leaves, chewy caramel, toasted malt, spicy hops and floral notes.

12 oz. bottle, pours a clear golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of oranges, sweet caramel, some syrup tones and bready English hops. Flavour of English hops, bready notes, caramel malts, finishing on slightly sweet, very bready English-style hops. Definitely English-styled, but lacking dynamics. A little dull and lifeless, but solid enough.

Draft at pony bar HK. Pours a bright, hazy orange body with no head, very light lacing. Aroma is muted spice and malt, very restrained overall. Mouthfeel is medium and somewhat slick with notes of super sweet candy, cloying sugars, light bittering hop, light citrus and super sugary sweet malts. The sweetness ruined this beer for me overall.

GABF, 2012, Friday Evening. Good malt flavor with moderately roasted grain, but also some dry hops that I have come to expect for the few Burton ales I have tried. Full mouth feel with a good palate, a well made beer like most everything from Southampton.

Slightly copper coloured body with a golden glow and a thickish, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of earthy, nutty hops with a bit of caramel and toffee noticeable with a tiny bit of malt. Medium to Full-bodied; Chewy toffee and malty flavour with a good earthy hop bitterness and very low alpha acid hops showing some earthy and nutty tastes. Aftertaste is caramelised sugars, some nuts and a bit of malt - definitely more of an EPA than anything even close to an American IPA. Overall, a decent beer, but not great, and especially not for the style - there aren’t many hops here at all, but in an EPA category, this would be run of the mill to perhaps a tad better. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Malvern, Pennsylvania on 22-September-2012 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 05-October-2012.

Bottle. Hazy orange-amber with a medium white head. Aroma of malt, caramel notes, floral and slightly citric notes and some minerals. Flavor has a bit of malt sweetness, slightly caramelly and biscuity , minerally notes and pleasant hoppy bitterness, kinda floral and citric. Medium-bodied. Decent.

Bottle from the Piggly Wiggly, North Charleston. Time was, you could score some Southampton brews in NC. Since that’s no longer the case, thought I’d snap this up in my mixed six. Fairly opaque orange pour, with a medium creamy head. Nose of substantial malts, dry and tealike hops, and just a scootch of sugared fruit. Some age on it is detectable in the taste, but that’s less harm to English style IPAs than to Cali hop bombs. Still some traces of fruit and bitterness, and it’s a satisfying, unassuming entry.
