SuzyGreenberg (1067), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 11, 2008 750 ml bottle - wow, big thanks to brandon for breaking this one out as its be on my WL for a while now; clear, straw yellow with minor carbonation; huge, floral aromas; sort of like sticking your face in a bouquet of flowers; more below the flowers and right in the stems; flavor is sharp at first sip, but drops quickly; interesting and tasty, but something kind of off to me; grassy, raw and lots of honey; almost mead-like in the flavors; light bodied, dry and mildly tart; i’m a little curious on the age of the bottle; thanks brandon!!
DrHomolka (622), Columbus, Ohio, USA Nov 20, 2008 750ml bottle graciously given as an extra by puzzl. Pours a gorgeous, glowing bright orange color with a huge foamy white head. Very few times does the color of a beer really stand out. I remember Surly’s Bitter looking amazing and this is the same way. Surprisingly clear for the amount of gunk in the bottle. Aroma is intensely estery and flowery without being overdone. A great classic Saison smell underneath a lot of earthy, mushroom, floral aspects. Peppery and spicy. Reminds me a bit of some Fantomes though a little toned down from that and without the funkiness. Some mint perhaps. Taste is complex, fruity, peppery, slightly tannic. Some of the floral aspects in the taste interfere slightly with the drinkability. That’s my only complaint with the beer. Definitely one of the better American made Saisons I’ve had. after4ever (1910), Brier, Washington, USA Oct 5, 2008 750, corked and baled. Thanks, BVC! Deeply hazy medium gold. Thick, sudsy, platinum blonde head. Moderate stringy lace. Big flowery, lilacy, orange-blossom-y nose. Coriander shows up in a huge way, but only as it warms. Spearmint in there as well. Medium body with softly fizzy carb. Nuts, grass, flowers, and menthol on the mid-palate. Long, dry finish. Awesome, awesome beer. RCL (1113), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Sep 27, 2008 Amazing floral aroma, I would give it an 11 if I could. The flavor is less impressive; floral yet fairly dry with a crisp, dry finish. StFun (360), Indiana, USA Sep 20, 2008 Interesting beer. Saisons aren’t really my thing, but this one was really nice and complex. Aroma is flowers and spice, with a hint of candy. Flavor is big on flowers, with some nice notes of spice. Some lavender, sugar, carmel, and cookie flavor. Candy flavor comes through and holds everything together. Thin texture. Maybe a little too watery, but this was the best Saison I have had.
