TheBeerLover (1013), DC Metro Area, USA Dec 12, 2006 Enjoyed a pint of this one on draught at the Publik House in Southampton, NY. Pours to a jet black color, with a thick, creamy, tan head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with lots of big dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted barley aromas. The palate is rich and full on the tongue with really fantastic dark chocolate, coffee, and roasty notes. This beer finishes with more big dark chocolate and coffee flavors up front, and ends with a bone dry and roasty bittereness that lingers. Outstanding example of Irish stout. Very authentic, very delicious pint of beer, that works very well with the sea food, and deserts on the Publik House menu. sliffy (1951), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 14, 2007 Growler thanks to puddintane’s secret santa: Pours dark brown to black with a medium sized tan head. Aroma, chocolate, lots of dry roasted notes, some coffee, toasted notes. Flavor, coffee, chocolate, with a nice dry roastiness. Some roasted bitterness, medium bodied. This was really good, very drinkable, tasty. I loved it. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA May 23, 2006 I was really impressed with this: on tap at the brewpub...Very thick and rich, great mouthfeel, slightly chewy, yet it is not too heavy. Full-aroma and Full-flavor. Great amounts of coffee and chocolate. Gentle roasted malts abound, but this one is not too sweet. Very good, wish I had more of it. mkobes (2039), somewhere, New Jersey, USA Feb 3, 2008 Growler from HDG. Deep dark black in color with a little head that left a nice lacing. Smokey malty chocolatety aroma. Roasty nutty chocolatety flavor. Caramel notes. Finish is smokey. Medium bodied. Well balanced. Creamy. Nice beer. Very drinkable. notalush (2075), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA May 20, 2006 Tap at the brewpub - shazam - a great foreign stout - perfectly black with a thick dark brown lace - nice cocoa, anise, wine-like bitterness - light toffee sweetness to balance - not so much roasty as it is burnt in flavor, but not in a bad way, more like a well-done roasted marshmallow with bittersweet chocolate wrapped around it.
