3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Roasted nose, black color, clinging head. Toasted malt, chocolate tones, coffee bitter finish. A hint of smoke peeks through too. Medium body. Really a fine fine porter.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2008 [bottle - 22 oz] Dark black pour with not much of a head or carbonation. The aroma had lots of fruit and alcohol in it. Very alcoholy for a porter. Was not expecting as much fruit and not a lot of malt either. The taste is slightly dry with flavors of dark fruits, alcohol and some pine. Underneath it all, there is a hint of corn and grass reminiscent of Keystone Light. Very thin and watery. Maybe I caught a bad bottle, but I was not that big a fan.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Semi transparent deep garnet color with a generous tan head. Fruity aroma, malty also. Not entirely what I was expecting from aroma. Grainy, toasty malt flavor, oatmeal stands out - I catch some brown sugar to finish. Slightly bitter, yet sweet. Decent mouthfeel, maybe a tad thin although a good representative to stlye. A nice brew.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep black with a nice head that fades to a slight film. Aroma is moslty chocolate, some toffee, lots of caramel malts, and some coffee, but no roasted malts. The aromas blend together very well. A very slight hint of smoke as it warms. flavor is very malty with a crapload of chocolate malt, some crystal for sweetness and some hops in the end for a nice slight bitterness to balance the flavor. The body is silky smooth and finishes slightly sweet and slightly dry. After a while you can notice just a touch of alcohol in the end. Very smooth in the end. Probably the best baltic I’ve ever had.

3.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Very subdued metallic aroma with hints of DMS as well as some roastiness. Egh. Dark brown, mostly opaque with a tan head thats frothy at first and dissipated relatively quickly. Slightly sweet chocolate notes to start, turning delightfully drinkable with a bit of espresso and molasses to finish. Oily and inky...just the way I like them. If I could give a 6 for palate, this would get it. Makes up for the piss-poor aroma.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Quite dark for a porter, coffeeish hues, small beige head, fairly attractive lacing. Sweet roasted malt aroma, somewhat lactose like. Very sweet malty flavor, subtle chocolate and coffee, with a very soft hop finish. This is quite tasty! Wonderful body, medium to full mouthfeel, and somewhat silky as well. Slightly dry finish, with very sweet roasted malts lingering. Good stuff! Thanks Jeff!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Courtesy of hopdog via trade. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, light caramel, and light coffee. Pours a dark brown with some orange hilights. Small off-white head that quickly fades to a ring. Flavor is pretty much represented well by the aroma. Chocolate and caramel with the vanilla a little more hidden than in the aroma. Light roasted coffee and light hops in the finish. Easy drinking but not as big flavored as I was expecting.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hot chocolate, roasted malts and raisins in the mildly lactic aroma. Opaque brown-black with a decent tan head that recedes to ring with some lacing. Chocolate flavour is strong with floral hops, subdued roasted malts and marzipan sweetness and fruity esters offset by a fair though unobtrusive bitterness. Soft-bubbled, fairly low carbonation to the medium body with a dry finish. Bottle (Jun-05) enjoyed with MartinT, Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere for Martin’s ’Bachelor Party’! Thanks, ClarkVV!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 10, 2006 (Version brewed and bottled at Saratoga Springs):
Potent dark chocolate and malty roastiness emanate from a black robe with brown and red sleeves.
Fruitiness and dark chocolate enliven the roasted malt bitterness. Milky candies and juicy grapes appear surreptitiously in the svelte, easy-to-drink body. Right on style, but nothing titillating for me.
Humility sadly thwarts enjoyment in a world of hedonism.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
