COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our imperial, Baltic-style porter is inspired by the strong, dark brews exported from Great Britain to Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rich and flavorful with upfront notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee.

Deep dark with a minimal and fading head. Aromas of rich, roasty chocolate and subtle hops. The flavor follows with a medium palate, smooth roasty flavors and a semi-sweet finish. Elegant and highly delicious.

12 oz bottle purchased at John’s Grocery. Black appearance with a small tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, licorice, molasses, earthy yeast, chocolate, noble hops and caramel/toffee. Similar flavor, dark, malty, sweet and fruity with minimal bitterness. Tastes a little old and stale, no freshness date. Medium body, slick and smooth with soft carbonation. Meh, it was OK, a little disappointing.

12 ounce bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, but was released recently. Pours nearly opaque dark brown color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, molasses, caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, plum, dark bread, light coffee, light licorice, herbal, and roast/toasty earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of dark/roasted malt and fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, dark bread, raisin, plum, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Good amount of earthy roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, molasses, toast, dark bread, raisin, plum, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt and moderate yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and fairly chalky/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Baltic porter. All around good balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roasted malt and moderate yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours near black with a creamy brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has notes of musty dark grains with light chocolate, roasted malts and a bit of toffee. Flavor starts with dark grains and roasted malts with a bit of chocolate coming out in the finish.

Taste is about what you’d expect from the type, except with some mild metallic notes at the end. Mouthfeel is watery for my taste. Drinkable, but not great.

Southampton Imperial Porter has a medium, beige head, a dark, reddish-brown appearance, and some splotchy lacing left on the sides of the glass. The aroma is of sweet, roasted malt, some dark cherry, and bread crust. Taste is of those elements, with a rich, coffee and chocolate undertaste. Bitterness is present but is relatively low. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Southampton Imperial Porter finishes semi-dry, easy going, and highly drinkable for a 7.2% alcohol ale. Overall, I think it’s really good. RJT

Pours dark brown and fizzy with minimal head - just a partial bubbles sheet. Looks a bit thin, but we'll see. Looks a bit thin, but we'll see. Aroma is mild chocolate malts and brown sugar. Taste leads with a strong hit of roasted grains and cola with some notes of coffee and chocolate. There is a fair amount of residual hop bitterness as well. Not quite as thin as I feared and with medium body and carbonation. A fairly active mouthfeel as well. This isn't quite Imperial, but is a very good porter. It grew on me as it warmed a bit. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark, dense brown with a short head. Nose of roasted malts and barnyard goodness. Medium sweet, roasty, black coffee bitter flavor. Medium body, average carbonation, thin-sticky texture, and a very roasty bitter finish. True to the style but could be more dynamic.

Black with a fast dissipating head of a light beige hue. Nose is sweet and roasty with a little cocoa creme and licorice. Flavor is really neat with earthy sweet licorice, earthy chocolate, some gentle bittersweet roast, a gentle molasses tone, and a touch of sweet porter-ish cola. A little bit on the booze ester, otherwise pretty nice.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Cola-like dark brown pour (appears black in the glass) with a frothy light khaki head. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, and light smoke. Flavor is good and not too bitter with chocolate and weak coffee upfront and hints of caramel on the finish. Easily quaffable considering this is "Imperial".

Had on on tap at urban tap in south side. Was excited to try an imperial porter but was disappointed. Boring and metallic.
