3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Steam. Pours jet black, big frothy head. Aroma is dark roast coffee, hickory, molasses, raisin. Taste is chewy, thick, and viscous...chocolate notes coming through strong along with the coffee; the latter of which dissapates as it warms. Some dark fruit here but more savory than sweet. Bitter hops..suprised by that. Not bad.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Black pour with a lasting brown foam build up. Looks and acts a lot like Surly Darkness. The nose has deep chocolaty notes, roasted malt galore, lightly roasted whole bean - very nice nose. The mouthfeel is pretty carbonated but settles to a creamier state after a while. Lots of sweetness at first but with substantial roast to be complex and ballanced. Fairly high drinkability for such a beast which some of the mega-stouts sometimes lack if ya aks me. Candied aftertaste. Surprisingly good!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
08/02/2014 750ml bottle shared by Theydon_Bois @ Ma che siete venuti a fà (thanks Colin!). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma leggera beige-marroncina.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Opaque black pour, mocha lacing. Boozy aroma of baker’s chocolate, black coffee, brown sugar, leather, anise, and some smoke. Somewhat syrupy sweetness is quickly replaced with a dry, tannic bitterness. Smooth, a bit oily, and a little thinner in body than expected. Long bitter finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared at Ma Che, big thanks to Max Daddy - He’s the Daddy for the IP trade! 2012 vintage #29/650.
Pitch black with a dirty tan head that thins to a swirl and edgework.
Nose is big roast, liqourice, dark chocolate, dark fruits, booze fumes but not over bearing, dark toffee fudge, dark malt.
Taste comprises a big roast bite, dark chocolate, liqourice stick, burnt toffee, bitter dark chocolate, pinch of spice, boozey lick, ash.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, light booze in a semi cloying closure.
Decent impy, the 10.% is well integrated, just falls a little short of a great for me.
