Linus_Stick (1521), Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 27, 2008 Not a bad heller bock considering this is one of my least favorite styles. Aroma of caramel and honey. Pour was a murky orange with a one finger off white head. Taste was very sweet. Mostly maple syrup, honey and caramel. Sticky and thick mouthfeel. As it warms the maple and nut come out in full force.
alexanderj (1229), San Diego, California, USA Jul 27, 2008 Bottle; got this on sale for about 3 bucks, so can’t really complain if it blows. Pours a burnt orange color with a small, but lingering, off white head. Aroma of honey, caramel, and biscuit; very earthy and cloying. Flavor was unsurprisingly all malt. A mixture of honey and sweet caramel, some very light bitterness in the finish. Flavor was sweet, but not quite as much as I expected after experiencing the aroma. Overall this was a pretty good, straightforward representation of the style. Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jun 10, 2008 Draft at SHPH. Pours an amber body with a small head. Oddlly enough we found out from the brewer that this is whats used to make the ice-bock. Sweet malty and very sticky. Some fruit character. Angeloregon (1867), Portland, Oregon, USA May 4, 2008 Thanks to Ezra for this one--From a bottle--Poured a bronzy body. Thick, cloying, caramel and toffee notes. Lots of bitterness in the finish with some candy and molasses flavors. Honey and syrup. Over bearing on the tongue. Too much going on and not complex. MrBunn (842), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 19, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dingy, golden amber with a lot of carbonation sticking to the side of the glass and a big, fluffy head. Aromas are blah... sweet malt with honey and caramel and apple juice concentrate. That’s about it for complexity in the nose. Flavor is pretty similar. Tastes like an alcohol-heavy, sweet and malty experiment that didn’t turn out quite right, but isn’t completely awful either.
