2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
In short: A Guinness clone. Meh.
How: Nitro tap at Prohibition Pig, Waterbury VT. This batch at 4.8% (currently listed at 5.5% on ratebeer).
The look: Black body topped by a persistent medium beige head.
In long: Nose is lightly roasted and that’s about it. Taste is hard to describe but not because it is original or anything. Taste is hard to describe because it doesn’t taste like much. Light roasted grains in a very fluffy melt-in-your-mouth body. The little subtle flavors this beer may have had were killed by the nitro. Basically this was like a Guinness but with a somewhat smoother velvety body and even more pronounced lactic notes. Nothing offensive here, this beer does not even have enough character to be offensive, this was just a very very inoffensive beer. And if you ask me, the only thing I find more boring than a flavorless nitro stout is a beer that is more boring than a flavorless nitro stout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Publick House. Note - this year’s batch is listed at 4.9% on their blackboard. Arrived at the table black with a thin light brown head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and laced the glass well. Pleasant aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and oats. The flavor is roasted malt and oatmeal with less of the chocolate than the aroma. Medium-full bodied and fairly smooth on the palate. Very solid oatmeal stout.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap @ brewpub. Pours almost black with some light that comes through around the edges. Nice oatmeal stout with some roasted maltiness and light hop bite. You can taste the oatmeal if you really dig into it but it’s very subtle. Nice dry flavor that keeps it from being too sweet.
