IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA May 21, 2005 Poured a deep amber with a small half-creamy off-white head. Pleasant aroma of sweet malt and a touch of hops. Taste is definitely American style with a strong hops present, but very well balanced and quite drinkable. Although not as full or rich as others, and not as malty as I prefer, this was quite a satisfying barleywine. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA May 16, 2005 a 2004 vintage aquired in trade w/ mike bottle # 435 of 500
pours a cloudy copper color w/ a very thin fairly well laced off white head.
scent is initially sweet definately a honey and carmel malt hints of raisens and brown sugar.then an odd floral scen too. Palate is fairly creamy w/ a nice full mouth feel and some carbonation. Flavor is highly sweet definate big carmel malt honey in the flavor and alcohol warms the swallow has an odd hop finish too. a solid brew but a little to sweet 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA May 16, 2005 Thanks Chuck for sharing bottle 435/500 that he got from Mike. It pours a brownish amber color with a thin white head ring. The aroma is yellow/green raisins, coriander type spiciness, caramel/toasted malts, pinenuts. The flavor is caramel malts, raisins, oranges. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA May 1, 2005 Bottle 479/500. Pours a dark copper/amber with a smooth thin off-white head. Aroma of sweet honey and caramel with alcohol showing through. Taste had an odd tartness in the finish that tasted off against the sweet thickness of this brew. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA Apr 27, 2005 Pours a dark crimson red. (Think the scary lookin’ red guards from Star Wars 6) Nice sized white head. with lots of lacing. Aroma is of cherries, and toasted malt. Flavor is incredible. So big and full. Cherries, raisons, and other fruits. Main body of caramel malt, alcohol bite to it. Very nice! Thanks to JahNoth for this amazing beer. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA Apr 12, 2005 Nice dark orange pour with a white head which leaves a ring on a side of the glass. The nose consists of orange, graitfruit, raisin, brown sugar and whisky. The taste was like mandarin orange plus alcohol. This was good but not really memorable. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Apr 3, 2005 (Bottle) Surprisingly light coloured with a deep orange with reddish tinge and a long lasting frothy white head. Nose of deep peppermint, prunes and mild bourbon. Outstanding nose isn’t transmitted to the flavour however - I found the taste, though very sweet, to be lacking and unidimensional. Licorice, fizzy, light and with an oddly mild flavour.Sour finish reminds me of my mother’s Seville orange marmelade. Good. Many thanks Lubiere for sharing! axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 3, 2005 2003 bottle #378/500. Pours a cherry red color body with very little head that disappears quickly. The aroma is sweet malts and brown sugar with a little yeast. Very smooth. Flavors are toasted carmel malts, whiskey, raisins, and oranges, with minimal alcohol flavor but a nice warming. Very good.
