Commercial Description:
The Southampton Publick House now occupies the space that was once Herb McCarthy's Bowden Square Restaurant. Herb McCarthy's was the place to be in the Hamptons for more than two generations. Those who remember him still speak fondly of "old Herb", who held court at Bowden Square from 1936-1986. He was rarely seen without his Chef's coat and trademark kerchief.

Bottle 429/500 shared at a tasting at heemer’s. Poured a cloudy brown color with a soapy off white head. Smelled of malty caramel and a touch of buttery apple pie. Smooth with a full mouth feel. Apple, cherry, toffee, and malty caramel flavors. Delicious.

A murky copper to brown appearance. A malty aroma consisting of molasses and oranges. The one was rather sweet and herbal with some oranges and caramel flavors. A rather creamy and spicy finish. A nice english style barleywine.

Enjoyed at NoogFest III. Hazy amber with minimal wispy/lacy head. Malty sweet and hoppy aroma. Caramel candy and fruit are also hanging around. Nicely sweet flavor with big malt, lightly metallic hints, strong alcohol and fruit (fig and orange) with a just a hint of spruce hop. Good. Full creamy body with a semi-dry finish. Enjoyable.

This is one I have been wanting to try for a while. Bottle 429 of 500. The body was dark copper with a yellowish colored head. The aroma was sweet smelling with a apples and some rich caramel. There was also leather a pleasant rich cellar character. The taste was rich with leather and some caramel. There was also a little bit of sutble pears. A nicely made barley wine that almost reminded me of an old ale.

2006 version, bottle 49 of 500. Cloudy orange, no head, very carbonation - almost still. Really nice fresh baked bread aroma, with a touch of savory spice. Smoove palate, and very bready and toasty and bicuity, with subtle notes of honey and rye. Slightly rough, dry finish. Very tasty stuff.

#68 of 500 from 2005, my first Southampton. Pours dark copper with cream head and definitely bottle conditioned, loaded with some serious sediment. Nice rich smells of sweet fruit, golden raisins, apricots, caramel, sweet malts and some pine sap hoppiness. Taste is sweet maltiness, followed by a hint of alcohol, followed by quite a bit of bitterness in the finish. Very enjoyable. Thanks meathookjones for this one.

2005. 12oz bottle, split with my cousin ggaughan. Brown color, with some sediment in suspension. a few white bubbles sit atop the beer, not much of a head. Sweet malt aroma, with hops and alcohol. Complex body, with notes of driet fruit, molasses, vanilla, and hops. I didn’t find the alcohol overwhelming at all. Nice barleywine.

Vintage 2005 12 oz bottle #158 of 500, thanks to a trade with puzzl for this. Hazy orange red with a beige ring of a head. Sweet aroma, brown sugar, malt, orange, cookie, cherry, raspberry, carmelized, and a little oxidation behind it that seemed to fade pretty quick. Light but tasty flavors cookie, fruit, grapefruit, carmel, alcohol, and some bitterness. At two years, a pretty tasty barley wine.
