porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Feb 2, 2009 (22 oz. bottle from McKean and Charles) Pours hazy darkish coppery amber. Two fingers of lightly yellowish biege head. Aroma slightly eggy-vanilla, slightly sourish and spicy. Mouthfeel fairly smooth but a little pebbly. Medium- hefty. Flavor is quite dominated by spice - cinnamon and nutmeg overtake the palate and don’t allow much emergence of the malt and hops. Maybe a slight hint of egg/caramel maltiness underneath but the spice begins to wear after awhile. FatPhil (3449), Espoo, Finland Feb 1, 2009 660ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, American Weeks 2009) - shared by oh6gdx - thanks!
Smells of cheap-arse cola drink. Sweet and watery palate. Also tastes of flat cola, again cheap-arse own-brand, but also has some pumpkin. Funnily it’s not as bad as it smells. Quite drinkable and covers the 6% very well, as it actually tastes weak. Also in the taste is pie base - pale floury nonsense. The only upside is the hoppy finish which is quite nice. Pretty messed up, well worth avoiding. tlind2 (560), Helsinki, Finland Jan 29, 2009 750 ml bottle @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Copper color, off-white head. Sweet aroma of fruit and spices. Spicy flavor with cloves and ginger. Medium body, medium carbonation. It’s ok, but more of a curiosity than a great beer. cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Jan 27, 2009 Generous sample from a local gathering during the years first snow fall. A good pumpkin ale all in all, but one dimensional and perhaps a bit too easy going. Nice malty aroma with fresh pumpkin and a splash of spice. Orange copper color, hazy and vibrant. Thin head and moderate lacing. Light to medium bodied, crisp and drinkable. Standards of fresh pumpkin and some bakers spices accounted for the flavor. I like these to be a little thicker and bolder, but it is a refreshing beer. Alldaydrinker (557), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA Jan 21, 2009 Pours a golden color, hazy with small off white head. Nose of cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg and touch of pumpkin. Initial taste is spicey with touch of pumpkin. Flavor following the aroma. Body is very light and watery. Very light stuff but was expecting more flavor and some body. Palate duration is average. head retention is great. SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Jan 18, 2009 Tall lasting head of off-white over a hazy deep orange body.
Spiced pumpkin aroma, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice.
The flavor is rich and follows the aroma.
Spicy smooth. Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Jan 17, 2009 22oz bottle via trade with NYbeer, thanks Steven. Dark copper pour. Lots of christmasy spices, cinnamon, allspice and the like. Nice pumpkin spice flavor as well, just what I expected, not bad. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Jan 11, 2009 Bomber (beer#1 NYG-Eagles playoff game). Nice head retention on brown/red body. Nice roasty pumpkin. Flavors have melded quite a bit over the past few months with a lot of the pumpkin spice going away. Decent stuff but no where near my favorites Southern Tier and DFH.
