750 mL bottle thanks to Brandon. Gushed out of the bottle, but nice dark reddish brown pour with off white head, aroma has notes of molasses, vanilla, dark fruit, some nice slight funk, touch of tart. Taste is some nice green apple, molasses, dark fruit, some earth, toast, some slight yeasty funk, spices in there as well. Very layered and complex, lots going on but blends together well. Carbed a little high but overall works well.

This poured a lighter brown color with a small beige head. Aroma was belgian yeasty characters, some caramel, and some dark fruit. Darker sweetness took over in the taste more than the yeast characteristic one would expect in a saison. Decent overall but nothing special.

750mL at RBSG 2011 in Philly. The pour is a cloudy brune with a large, rocky, sheen, thick, tan head. Excellent retention and big lacing. Nose is red licorice and fermented dark fruits similar to Gouden Carolus Christmas. Lots of heavy Belgian Christmas notes. Taste is soft and malty with brown sugar oatmeal more akin to biere de garde. Very nicely bready and doughy. Sweet cherry comes through. Very well done and I guess it’s a style that sort of defies logic: saison being bright and fruity and "brune" being rye, earthy, grainy, heavy. So putting them together really creates a biere de garde. Sweet and malty but not syrupy or cloying.
