3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Hazy yellow gold in color with a big white head. Aroma, funky, bready, some yeast, lemeon, and other light fruits. Flavor, funk, some yeast, lightly bready. Kinda odd, it didn’t really do it for me.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: AUG 4, 2008 2006 bottle drank fresh. The cork came out hard. The pour is shiny gold with a huge creamy white head that diminishes to rocky lace. Aroma is spicy sweet malt but also dried hops, dusty and yeasty. A delicious mix. Sweet up front with a palate cleansing dry finish. 8/5/8/4/18
ADD RATING: 750ml bottle. Not sure of the age, but probably at least a few months old. The pour is a beautiful rich golden color with a thin layer of tight white bubbles an lace. The aroma is rich sweet malt and dry crisp hops. The upfront flavor is sweet and smooth, the finish is dry and makes it refreshing. I do like this beer a lot. 7/5/8/5/18

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 21, 2009 Cloudy golden-yellow body topped by a large big-bubbles white head with medium retention. Aroma is saison alright with some barnyard and a hint of pears. Taste is fruity, a bit salty/minerals, very yeasty, some unflavoured pop-corn and some dry hops. Full body with an overall dry sand-paperish sensation. Good but didn’t meet my hopes. Looks like the Saison Deluxe is step below their regular Saison. Maybe I’d really love their Leftover Saison.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Shared Ernest’s landmark bottle. Beer is cloudy, light gold with a massive, rocky, off-white, diminishing but lasting head.

The aroma is attractive; lush and fresh. It’s malty with light notes of toasted grain, light notes of shortbread; Hoppy with a moderate herbal note (like mellow rosemary), light lemon zest, buttery chamomile; Yeasty with a light note of dough; MIscellany include light notes of tropical fruit/pineapple, clove.

The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter, moderate acidic with a long, slightly warm, lightly bittersweet finish.

The body is medium, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively. Trace of tingling astringency on the gums.
Perhaps my favorite taste from Southampton so far.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rating #3500, reached at age 35, and 5 years since my intro to RateBeer. 750mL bottle (made at Sly Fox’s Royersford location). Head is initially huge, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs, mold), with notes of lemon zest, pepper, Juicy Fruit gum, clove. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Excellent rendition in the Dupont mold. Sweeter than the latter (almost too sweet to really be in the saison family, but the finish just barely saves it), and softer in the nose, but has the same lemony-spicy character. Good effort, and I’m personally very relieved this was made at Sly Fox instead of Olde Saratoga.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2007 Impressions from the tulip glass:
-A veil of foam straddles the hazy blond hay.
-Subtle grain and spicy hoppiness are linked by peeking alcohol for an altogether clean aroma.
-Leafy hop bitterness is well-balanced with the delicately honeyed maltiness and whispering spiciness.
-Fluffy, large bubbles expand in the mouth, and somewhat overshadow some of the flavor display.
-It finishes quite dry with non-distinct supporting hoppiness.
-Of course, this is well-brewed and absolutely authentic (it’s a Southampton, after all), but I found it to be austere and lacking in personality or raw flavor. Not as impressive as their regular Saison, or their gorgeous 2006 Triple for that matter.

Bottle... Cloudy yellow ale with a huge, fluffy, white head. Good retention. Spicy phenols and fuzzy fruit in the predominantly earthy nose; faint notes of vanilla and tangerine. Bitter and tart flavor. Lots of herbal, spicy hops. A touch of funk with no heavy alcohol. Medium to full-bodied with prickly carbonation. Finishes crisp, spicy and medium bitter. <B.Cheers to Growler for splitting this big bottle with me!
