750ml bottle Pours golden amber with a nice forthy white head that stays very well and laces the tulip glass in weblike patterns. Aromas of yeast, honey, lemon, some grass, and a spice presence. Good complex flavor includes honey, yeast, dough, lemon, pepper, corriander, and some grassy hops. Palate is light and airy with a somewhat spicey dry finish. Amazingly complex and quite fantastic to sample..

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2007 Pours a hazy honey/orange/golden with a huge blooming off-white head. The aroma has a touch of barnyard funk, a very bright lemony/grassy bouquet and strong yeast scent. It’s amazingly lively. Almost too much carbonation. The mouthfeel is immense. Soft malt touch upfront. A bit earthy citrus aspect. Touch of spicyness with hints of coriander, peppery. Somewhat grassy with a lte but nice resiny tartness. Balanced, lively and highly drinkable. Not as complex as the original Saison. Perhaps with aging this will match, or maybe surpass the original.

Bottle. Pale orange/yellow color with a huge white head that lasts forever. Tons of bubbles. Grassy, straw aroma with yeast, bread and cheese. Light maltiness with a flowery background. Very tame aroma, but nice. Nice flavor. Citrus like tartness and more yeast. Spicy, slightly sweet, with a really spicy aftertaste. Somewere in between the way black pepper and a radish makes your mouth feel. I can really feel it in my throat and on the back of my tongue. Just enough bitterness. This is an excellent saison, and complex, especially for the style.

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2006 Rating #150. 750mL bottle. This beer looks incredible, to begin: clear golden-orange beneath a fluffy off-white head; well-retained with strong lacing. Generous aroma, showing some tartness, barnyard funk, lemons and herbs. Nice up-front tartness (just a bit), followed by a medium-to-full mouthfeel showing pepper, citrus, some bread and yeast - all surrounded by a candy sugar sweetness. The finish is peppery, well-balanced. Very enjoyable saison.

I kind of agree with notalush that this is nothing too special and yes it doesn’t "excite" me. This is a well made saison, to represent your typical saisons. Very well done but it doesnt have anything really different or special about. I did enjoy it, I would drink it again and recommend it to others but it doesnt take any leaps away from your standard Saisons. I will say its an exceptionally beautiful beer. I mean the head is huge and the shooting visible carbonation make it look so lively. It is a mainly pilsner malt heavy Saison, just like they should be (as I understand). Low on spiceness. It is very lively and thirst-quenching. The carbonation is a bit too strong right now but that will settle with age. No funk to it either which is ok. Just a bit fo sweetness as it warms. I mean its good stuff.

Bottle. Poured hazy amber with a huge fizzy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Heavy yeasty citrus aroma. Light to medium body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Medium sour flavor with a medium sour finish of moderate duration. This is a standout beer.

As of this weekend, this beer is pretty ubiquitous in the NY area, but now that I’ve had it, I can’t say that it excites me too much - very cloudy straw color, with a huge, fizzy head that remains in the glass, even after you’ve drank all the beer - aroma is mostly pilsner malt up front, then some belgian yeast, some light bready qualities, lots of dry herbs and grass/hay - the beer has a slight chalkiness, and this, coupled with the rather mouth-filling, fizzy carbonation, makes the mouthfeel a tiny bit abrasive - other than that, though, this beer is solid - medium sweet orange and lemon rind flavors combine well with a well-balanced spice profile (heavy hops up front, then some hard to pick out ones, ginger? corriander?) - very light barnyard/funk way in the back, which will hopefully get more prominent with age - gets a tad too sweet near the end - it has its faults, but these Sly Fox/Southamptons have really been an improvement on the bombers.

Fresh from the corked bottle, I really liked this saison. It has great carbonation that just foams up in your mouth, just as all good saisons should do. The flavor is slightly yeasty, but pleasantly malted and sweet. The flavor is the same. Refreshing and easy to drink. Will be very nice with cheese. Nice!
