750 mL bottle received via Secret Santa July 2008. Pours hazy orange with a large, rocky, white head, mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (grain, hay, straw, meal), average hops (herbs, grass), heavy yeast (horse blanket, barnyard, earth) with notes of pear, wood, and pepper. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

750ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)
Pale gold, tiny froth of a head once the initial pile had subsided. Corny, sweet aroma. Toffee-like sweet taste, sticky on the lips. Becomes a bit more treacly after a while. Not an amazing saison - not crisp or fresh, but a tempting succulent body and soft malty finish. Spoilt only by too much sticky sweetness.

Bottle... Cloudy yellow ale with a huge, fluffy, white head. Good retention. Spicy phenols and fuzzy fruit in the predominantly earthy nose; faint notes of vanilla and tangerine. Bitter and tart flavor. Lots of herbal, spicy hops. A touch of funk with no heavy alcohol. Medium to full-bodied with prickly carbonation. Finishes crisp, spicy and medium bitter. <B.Cheers to Growler for splitting this big bottle with me!

Rich gold pour. White head. Dry, spicy, yeasty, delicious aroma. Flavor is creamy, earthy, yeast, honey, fruit. Good shit. Thanks Gianni!

Bottle. Poured a medium and hazy golden color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas of citrus (lemons), yeast, floral and a little bready. Tastes of citrus, light yeast, and light spices. Nice, refreshing and easy to drink. Alcohol content hidden.

Smells and looks like a saison. Barnyard aroma is there, as if by custom. SIgnificant head on lighter colour body. The surprise is the hoppiness moderated by fainter spice. Tasted closer to an ESB. An entirely different saison than the regular saison, according to my notes.

750 ml corked and caged. Pale golden colour, massive rocky beige head. Gorgeous nose, light peach, apricot. lemon, lime, lemongrass and mango. Clovey and appley. Very spicy yeast with green cardamom and rich, sweet baking spices. Body is fairly lean, but could be even more so. Spritzy carbonation, carbonic acidity with hints of lactic and malic tartness as well. Lingering yeastiness on the back. A touch of Saaz hoppiness on the back. Very pleasant and in many ways it reminds me of their triple, which isn’t a bad thing, since I loved that too. Yeasty finish with a flinty/minerally bite on the back.

750mL. The pour is a cloudy, glowing light orange to gold with a towering, massive, sheen, rocky, ice cream head that is about five inches high and rockets out of the oversized Tripel Karmeliet tulip. Huge retention and gobs of lace. Nose is soft vanilla, tangerine, sweet pineapple, peach ice cream with medium saison yeast esters akin to rain and petrichor. Very fresh, fruity, sweet in the nose. Taste is malty, doughy, oatmeal rich, lots of alcohol coming through with vanilla, spiced rum, lemon, tangerine. Very nice stuff albeit not as refreshing as Saison Dupont or even peppery/spicy. This is a bit sweeter, more boozy, lots more body, but retains tons of tropical fruit.

Bottle thanks to Brooha. Pours cloudy yellow gold with white head. Nose of yeast, ripe fruits, basement funk and orange rind. Taste is the same with a nice lemon zest finish. Nice full mouth feel.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2012 Amazingly rich, sweet, tart, acidic, smooth - I’m pulling out every word for this beer but they all fit. Light oily sugar nose, spicy wheat and yeast full in the nose. Creamy, tart, light, active, lively on the tongue. Simply amazing. What I always wanted Hennepin to be.
