COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Southampton Saison is a faithful rendition of this classic "farmhouse" style ale. Originally brewed for consumption during the summer months, its slight tartness and intense fruitness make it a most refreshing drink anytime of year.

Pours a hazy golden color with thick frothy white head. Aroma is of light apple, pear, spice and light clove. Taste is much the same, but this is a very subtle and well done Saison.

750ml bomber: This one pours a hazy, golden straw yellow color. There was a huge frothy white head on mine, so much that it was difficult to pour. The aroma is very nice. Floral, grassy, some citrus and faint spice. The taste is very good. slightly tart, with a faint bit of apple and citrus in there. Slight spice, wheat, grassiness. This is a very nice beer. Too bad I seem to have one of the last.

On tap at Capone’s on 5/29/2010. Transparent yellow with average white head. Aroma is sweet and very herbal, some grass, cloves and coriander. Too much herbal aroma. Flavor has lots of cereal, citrus, too many herbs, too much of an almost artificial tasting sweetness. Finish is mildly bitter, with cereal and grapenuts.

Tap at Capone’s. Clear yellow-brown pour. Bubbly with a thin white head. Very floral with clove and coriander. Very good amount of yeast and funk, but spice is very noticeable - coriander and banana notes. Bitter finish.

On tap at the Copper Mine pub. Clear golden/light orange in color with a small off white head. Would have liked to have seen a bit more yeast in suspension. Good aroma - citrus esters, somewhat spicy and peppery - mild malt. Taste: Citrusy, somewhat estery, very light bubblegum, some spicy pepper - the yeast character would have been even better with more yeast in it. The carbonation was very low - became flat after a couple of minutes. Would love to try this again with more yeast and better carbonation.

Draft. I finally got to try this beer, original brewpub recipe per the Southampton rep. Pours a hazy copper body with a white head. The age is 6 weeks old so this is rather young. A spicy floral citrus body with cinnamon tone and lemon grass tartness. The citrus character really stands out almost tropical fruit amongst a spicy cinnamon toned body with a light acidity to finish. Really nice, here’s to 5 years of looking.

2009 GABF, Friday. One of the best Southamptons I’ve had. This one achieves complexity through the use of Brett and herbal, balanced hops. Palate stays smooth all the way through to a creamy and soft finish. Delicate, but not boring. Not sweet nor bitter, which I appreciate for the style.

Two bottles recently. 03 and 05. Both consumed in 09. Similar profiles. Aroma is sweet with faint spice and yeast with a little twang to it. Flavor is bright and mellow spice and pepper with citrus and yeast. Really good.

2005 Bottle (Labeled on Cage):
Nice hazy orange coloured body with a dense white head that fades fast. Aroma of hay, grass, yeast ,wheat, coriander seed and some mild oranges. Medium-bodied; Assertive bready wheat and yeast in the taste with some fruit, alcohol and pungent acidic flavours coming out. Aftertaste has some nice refreshing flavours with citrus and coriander seed the most common. Overall, a good saison, definitely one to sample - if you can find it! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Beers of the World in Rochester, New York back in 2005/2006? , sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 06-September-2009 after plentiful amounts of resting time.
