MrBunn (826), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 10, 2006 Slightly reddish brown body with a bunch of lacing left by a mediocre head. Aromas are unispiring... maybe some caramel, mabye some nuts, but nothing really exciting. Flavor is much better than I would have guessed with our phenomenal start. Nice nutty flavoring with some lightly roasted malt presence and a touch of toffee like sweetness. Comes off a bit watery every now and again, but some sips seem much fuller than others... perplexing, to say the least.
blankboy (2562), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy, quite bubbly, orange-amber with an average size diminishing off-white head. Aroma’s slightly sweet and fruity along with toasted grain, mild hops and caramel malt. Slightly watery flavour of caramel malt, grain, very light hops, a touch of toffee and a light but long bitter finish. Medium bodied, crisp mouthfeel. Nothing wrong with this, it’s easy to drink, it’s just lacking a little ’oomph’ or excitement -- still, for what it is it’s well done. DrDavid (117), , Vermont, USA Aug 2, 2008 (Bottle, as "Altbier"). Sweetish, fruity aroma, with hints of herbs. Very dark amber color; almost no head. Some bitterness and indeterminate fruit in the flavor. Bitter finish. Refreshing, but without a whole lot of interest. islay (401), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Aug 1, 2008 4 oz. sample, on tap at the brewpub. Consumed on 7-31-08. Amber / brass color. Clear liquid. Frothy, whispy, beige head. Nice lacing. Very interesting, herbal smell of sweet tea or iced tea. Herbal, tea-like, spicy taste as well. Also apple in the flavor. Not at all what I expected given the style, but that’s not a bad thing. Lightly dry aftertaste. Light to medium body. Lively in the palate. I appreciate Secret Ale’s uniqueness. redlight (1043), Winter Park, Florida, USA Jul 25, 2008 Spicy hops on the nose with grassy aromas. Pours a golden amber with a white head. Malty sweetness upfront, with grassy hop bite, with a solid bitterness. Very refreshing, with a clean dry finish. fredandboboflo (440), East Setauket, New York, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle, labled Altbier. Aroma toasty, playfully fruity. Flavor lightly and pleasantly sweet, clean malts, with a mildly charred bitterness. Refreshing. Just a damn solid beer.
