Draft at the brewery. There’s a dead bug in this one that must’ve wanted to die in style. It looks kind of happy in it’s tan, foamy death bed. The beer drinks with a fun coffee character, quite dry and bitter. Well done, as were all the SAB beers! (#4333, 10/7/2011)

Black with a reddish tint, thin tan head. Surprisingly fruity aroma, with some notes of coffee. Coffe flavors dominate. Disappointly thin palate threatens to sabotage the entire experience. Crisp, woodsy finish. sampled at Asheville Brewgrass, 2006.

On tap at Barley’s taphouse in Asheville, NC. Black beer with a brown head that does not last. Smells fruity. Tastes like apple. No roasted flavor. Smooth drink with diacyl perhaps? Is this fermented with lager yeast? There seems to be a wild yeast strain in there if not.
