COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This year’s holiday seasonal is a more traditional winter warmer and will be released in late October. If you recall, last year’s Old Humbug was a Strong Lager with a subtle star anise infusion. This year, Anders has created a very tasty, traditional British style winter warmer, utilizing an ale yeast strain instead of our usual house lager strain. Although this is a stylistic departure from our usual creations, you will not be disappointed. With generous amount of Castle Special B malted barley, which lends a hint of dark molasses flavor, and Challenger, Glacier, Newport and US Golding hop additions balancing the robust yet smooth malt profile, Old Humbug II comes in with a 8.2% Alcohol by volume (ABV) which will keep your tummy warm on those cold winter nights that are just around the corner. Limited quantities of this hand crafted gem are available For those of you who can’t make it to the Tap Room, Old Humbug II has found its way into select local and Portland area accounts but its disappearing quickly.

Bottle:   Deep copper, thin sudsy off-white head, dies quicklky, sparce lacing.   Malty and biscuity nose.   Certainly smells like an English Strong Ale.   Malty start, sweet, biscuity, soft hop presense.   Not as cloying as others, which is nice. &nbps Not a big fan of the style though.   A little medicinal on the backside.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Comes across as a lighter version of Pyramid Snow Cap, which this year is almost too much to bare.   Decent beer, but with its medicinal and slight band-aid at the exit I don’t think I will be visiting again.

Bomber. Dark reddish brown colored with a half-inch of tan head. In the nose, it’s mostly caramel, butterscotch, toffee and banana bread. The taste has more of a roasted malt and brown sugar flavor with the addition of some molasses, raisin and prune notes. Fairly creamy mouthfeel with adequate carbonation and a little bit of rum and burnt sugar in the finish. Nothing fancy but gets the job done as a Winter Warmer.

22. Black with a loose scattered tan rim. Spotty lace. Big bold dark nose of black olives and grilled meat. Creamy medium body with subdued carb. Dark roasty mid palate with black olives and grilled meat back for the second round. Mild roasty finish. Doesn’t have near the depth nor complexity of, say, an Adam, but it’s a credible stab in that direction.

Dark amber in color, clear with a thin head. Nice malt and spice aroma. Roasty flavors light with hops this beer is sweet and easy drinking. Take it slow the high alcohol will catch you.

09.27.2011 bottling date. 10.18.2011 drink date. Clear deep copper/ red color with lingering tan foam. Big dark spicy pit fruit, chocolate aromas. medium bodied with average co2. Nice spicy dark pit fruit flavors with some mild chocolates, warming finish--good

Poured a deep reddish brown with a robust light tan head and lots of lacing. Nose of roasted malts with nuts, raisins, and molasses. Rich body and a smooth creamy mouthfeel. The flavor is complex and strong and in mirrors the aroma. The finish shows some spices. Excellent.

Sent in a trade with Hayduke. We shared it via facebook chat. 22 oz. bottle. This pours a clear mahogany with a nice light tan head. Raisins jump out in the nose. It is chock full of rich malt. The flavor brings tons of malts. Those raisins, again, with anise, light chocolate, and some bittering hops that break up the sweetness with some zing. Alcohol here is very well hidden and is not really tasted at all. This is a very tasty beer. Even though the outside temperature here is 101 F this hits the spot.

Draft at 12th St Tavern. Poured into a snifter. Brownish red pour with a thin off white head. Cinnamon, toffee and a touch of licorice and cherry in the aroma. Taste is thick and malty, with notes of toffee, cinnamon, dark fruit and musty earthy hop bite. Nice winter warmer type of brew.

almost chocolate flavor, cinnamon, resin, wood smoke. grapefruity hops express in flavor and clash with the malt & spice action, allspice & cloves. dark caramel. clear medium brown with modest beige head. strong presence in the mouth. Sweet finish w/ warming.

Bomber from Belmont Station. Mahogany pour with a thin tan head. Aroma is mostly caramel, with some toffee and dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, toffee, dark fruit and molasses. Kind of a boring malt bomb, not my usual favorite type of brew.
