Bottle at Craigs. A black beer with a decent tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee and yeast. Flavours of chocolate, yeast and caramel. Moderate carbonation with a fair CO2 prickle. Mouth-feel is quite oily.

Opaque black color, small beige head. Strong chocolaty, coffee bean aroma. Medium-bodied. Chocolaty, toasted, coffee bean flavor. Sweetish finish. Low bitterness. Very tasty, especially if this is really only 5.5%.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2015 First of all, this is the best smelling beer I have ever had. The taste is just as good, and almost tastes as good as it smells. Almost. Still though, holy cow, this beer will surprise you. Re-rating, 3/29/2015: Now that my palate was ruined by Falling Sky’s two behemoth 11+%ers, this Porter fails to break through.

Carbonated cola body with a cola float head. Nice coal tinged, roasty nose--a coal miner’s brew. Nice roasty flavor. Again, strong presence of black patent endows it with a coal grilled flavor, but it is quite smooth. The only detraction is a slight watery finish to the body. A solid, highly roasty, quaffable porter.

Tap @ Sellia’s in Portland: Pours dark black with a light head. The nose is fresh and malty, plenty of roast and chocolate, a bit of oats and sweeter roasty notes. Light hops in the flavor and a bit sweet in body. Finishes grainy with light coffee ground notes. Not too bad, but a little scattered.

Purchased 22oz bomber at Mazama Village Store. Pours a dark brown with a substantial off-white head which lingers for a good while. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and a hint of floral presence. The taste is dark chocolate, toasted malt, and a touch of dried fruit. Medium body and a rich aftertaste of chocolate and malt. This is a great port.

Thanks Hayduke. This looks like a porter but with is exceptional with a thicker than usual head that has good staying power. Aroma is roasted malt with lots of thick rich dark fruit, chocolate and a bit of smoke. Feel is fizzy which is a pleasant surprise. It also feels more substantial than the typical porter. Flavor is similar to the flavor. Finish is chocolate with dark fruit. Porter is one of my favorite styles and this one is near the top of the heap. Very well done!

22. Pours an opaque black with a dense and creamy dark tan head that leaves tons of lace and really hangs around for a while. Big sweet dark chocolate nose with undertones of dark fruit, pruney. Creamy medium body, soft carb. Chocolate and mild dark fruit notes on the mid-palate with a mild sweet finish. Not bad but doesn’t have too much in the way of individual identity.
