Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with a bubbly, khaki-colored head. Smell: Humble roasted malt nose with notes of unsweetened chocolate and coffee dosed with whole milk. Taste: Ah, the sweet taste of roasted barley underscored by tastes of chocolate and café au lait. Fairly faint fruitiness. Earthy hop profile with a light bitterness. Minor puff of smoke. Roasty, bittersweet finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A fairly enjoyable, certainly easy drinking porter. Recommended, provided you’re looking for an easy going porter

Gooney (389) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 1, 2009
22 oz bottle from John’s - Very crisp porter that hints at a bit of chocolate. It’s like they took coffee beans roasted over an oak fire and wrapped them with chocolate.

Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a wispy-lacing light tan head. Aroma of dry toasty, smoky dark malts and a touch of coffee. Starts with average fullness and just a hint of sweetness before a drier toasty dark malty bittersweet finish. A pretty good porter, but drier than I expected.

This black ale poured with a rich tan head and a smoky aroma. There is a chocolate and coffee flavor that is tasty, but not super rich. Very drinkable.
