Working my way through the beers from this brewery, Woodshed Red is the first decent beer Iíve come across. Itís caramely and somewhat sweet on the palate, but the sweetness is not sugary or overbearing, and the beer is actually on the dry side. Hops are mildly bitter but have enough presence to balance the malty base with flavors of tea, pine and grass. There is, however, a slight tartness in the background from entry to finish, and while this is distracting in the initial sips, you donít even notice it after awhile. Medium in body with ample carbonation and a dry finish. The nose balances aromas of toasty and earthy malts with grassy and tea-like hops. Deep amber in color with a hint of haziness, and the off-white head builds to half an inch on the pour before settling to a wide ring and patchy cover. Easily the most drinkable and enjoyable of the ones Iíve tried so far.

Its alright, not amazing but alright. Darker than I want it to be. Drank it with half a bottle of Southern Comfort so it worked out.

Poured on tap for the Medford Brewery. Very little aroma but t appearance is great. Dark amber with some solid lacing. Sweet malt with some bitterness. Dry caramel finish make this an overall acceptable red.

pours a semi-cloudy brown with a small tan head, and some lacing. smell is of spice, malt, caramel, a few hops in the back, and some brown sugar. taste is creamy, spice, toffee, malt, and a tad amount of roastiness. ends smooth, and nicely spicey.

650ml bomber bottle pours a dirty amber color with a 2 finger off-white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel and citrus with some earthy notes. Taste is a caramel malty sweetness beneath a rich citrus and earthy hop bitterness. Nicely balanced flavors with a medium body and generous carbonation leaving pleasant sensations on the palate. A very well done amber that is worthy of a sampling or two. Tasty.

22. Pours murky, somewhat grainy dark brown. Loose string of off-white fish eyes around the top. Light drippy lace. Caramel and brown bread nose, showing a little bit of gingerbread as well. Creamy medium body with a bit of carb. Toasty caramel mid palate with a bit of the brown bread and a surprisingly roasty element. Big iced tea finish. Gets a bit sharply acetic near the end with the iced tea and the roast. Admirable effort to keep it from being just another wet little amber, but this oneís a bit too far the other way and out of balance as a result.

Bottle:   Deep amber, copper hues, moderate frothy off-white head, spotty lacing, very little carbonation.   Hoppy nose, a little barnish, a bit musty and stale.   Not all that sharp.   Certainly a malty Pale Ale.   A bit biscuity on the tongue, moderate hop bitterness.   Slight wet paper back on the backside, but tiz minor.   Certainly more of a Red than an Amber in its lack of heavy malt and abundance of hops.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Decent quaffing beer, but not different enough to stand out from the crowd.   I like my Reds hoppy, but just as malty as a good Amber.   This one lacks the malt depth I would have liked.   Otherwise, a decent interpretation even if a little on the hoppy side.   Who would have thought, me living in the PNW asking for a Red to be more malty.   Oh well, could use a bit of malt to lift up the body.

Autumn brown-amber color with dense, off-white head. Fruity hop nose with some cardboard and a stale grain quality. Nutty brown ale body, burnt caramel and bitter roastiness combines with bitter hop to emphasize the acerbic bite at the end. Raw, bitter, green leafyness. Ok.
