3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Wordsworth (89) - Austin, Texas, USA - FEB 2, 2013Pours almost black with a thin khaki head. Pretty fizzy for a porter with a chocolatey aroma. Dry, toasty flavor without a remarkable palate. Very average and drinkable- not worth coming back to.

On tap at the brewery. It pours very dark brown with a khaki head. The aroma is very chocolaty with some toast and coffee. The flavor is very dry and roasty with coffee, burnt toast and a soda pop mouthfeel. A little too fizzy, but decent flavor. A pretty standard porter.

On tap at brewery. Black with a creamy tan head. Sweet roasted grain and light coffee and chocolate aroma and taste with roasted grain notes to the unfortunately watery finish and too thin palate. I’m sensing a trend here.

On tap at Southern Pacific poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of ropastiness, bitter chocolate, mocha and light vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of roastiness, bitter choolate and coffee with a crisp dry lingering roasty finish.

When I visited this nice brewery, I sampled their Wit, Extra IPA, and this. All are good, but this was my favorite to drink. It has a very pronounced combination of chocolate, coffee, and toastiness. It’s rounded out nicely by having enough citrus and bitterness. I wouldn’t mind trying this kind of brew as a specialty -- barrel aged, etc. I wondered if it could be less bitter, more sweet.

Deep brown-black pour. The aroma is quite cocoaish and chocolatey. A fairly herbal component along with a bit of soft bitterness. Chocolately and full-bodied. Long lingering bittersweet finish. Lovely quaff really - especially now that it’s starting to cool on the patio.
