4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Originally rated on 7/11/14. "It wasnt marked so I didnt notice the price on until i was checking out.. OUCH. But i am glad it wasnt marked for i probably would have passed it up at $12 for 16.9 OZ. Liked their Buried Hatchet Stout, absolutely love this barrel aged version.Beautiful aromas of wood, leather, bourbon, coconut, coffee, milk and dark chocolates and maple syrup. Almost black body with plenty of brownish ruby edges, the head was thin and quickly reduced to a ringed film, leaving the occasional spot of lace. Medium mouthfeel, a touch of stickiness to it. All of the flavors come at you at once, big roasted coffee, nuts, booze, chocolates, bourbon the back side finishes with the mellow woody vanilla bean notes. A half step behind my favorite Goose Island Bourbon barrel aged stout, but still awesome and worth a try, i’m thinking about spending $12 more for a head to head this winter

Awesome stout. Nothing but true chocolate with a slight hint of bourbon. One of the best stouts i've ever had.

Magnificent beer! This is Southern Star's Buried Hatchet Stout aged in bourbon barrels and results in a sweet stout beer with hints of bourbon and chocolate. Delicious!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours clear ruby black, small tan head, creamy, dissipates fairly quickly, nice lacing. Aroma is pretty vanilla forward, candy, milk chocolate, caramel. Flavor is sweet, actually less so than I expected from the aroma, vanilla, chocolate, english toffee, Worthers, bourbon. Light bitterness as well. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. A desert beer with a lingering bourbon finish.

Opened with little carbonation. Pours with very thin head and medium/dark brown pour with light brown highlights at the edge. Gingerbread and prunes in the nose. Strong prune taste and light mouthfeel with acidic finish.
