Murky, muddy brown with almost no head. Aroma is vanilla spice, bourbon, caramel. Sweet, thick, rich. Bourbon and burnt caramel, with enough spice to cut the bourbon. Just delicious. Damn shame itís limited and very expensive.

Can at home. Pours black, thin head that quickly fizzles. Thin looking pour. Aroma is bourbon, oak, vanilla, licorice and faint cocoa. Smells nice. Taste is bourbon, vanilla, cocoa, slight red fruit, caramel malts. Taste is great. Thin mouthfeel / body for a beer with this flavor profile. Medium to High Carbonation. A nice beer!

16oz can to a tulip. Dark brown pour, Small tam head that dissipates swiftly leaving a ring around the glass. Aroma is first and foremost rich chocolate, followed by coconut, sweet sugar, bourbon, oak, caramel. Taste is bourbon and chocolate, but not overpowering. A lovely stout.

Tallboy can poured into snifter. Pours pitch black with a soapy white head that quickly disappears. Aroma is vanilla, oak, burnt sugar, molasses, booze. The flavor is complex, beginning with a malty bourbon sweetness, a faint char, burnt sugar, oak, and finishing with a long boozy vanilla. This shit is pretty delicious. The bourbon aging adds a lot of character to what is already a very solid stout. Iím glad I have a few more cans of this to age because I imagine it only improves with time.

Deep dark brown pour with a beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma is milk chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, and brown sugar. Taste is vanilla, milk chocolate, coffee, bourbon, and some bitter dark chocolate in the finish. On the sweeter side overall. Medium full body. Layers of flavor. Good beer.

First of all, I do like the buried hatchet. It is a solid beer. This one pours a little too thin. Not much different than the buried hatchet....canít taste much (if any) of the bourbon barrel aging. Definitely not worth the $10 investment.

Pours nearly black with a thin tan head that doesnít last too long. Nose is not very abundant, but dies have hints of vanilla and bourbon. Taste is heavenly with coffee, toffee, chocolate and vanilla notes. Very complex. Has a viscous mouthfeel. Finish is slightly bourbony and alcoholic. This is prices but very delicious and worth a splurge. Really good stuff. Buried Hatchet is very good but the bourbon-barrel aging kicks it up several notches.

TCBF. Pours inky black with a light cinnamon head -- we have motor oil here, my friends, and it looks tasty. Nose is magnificent; baking chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, cream, spice. On the tongue, itís rapturous. Buried Hatchet Stout is good enough; in bourbon barrels, it enters the magical realm of Freakiní Forget It. Damn Near Perfect.

Originally rated on 7/11/14. "It wasnt marked so I didnt notice the price on until i was checking out.. OUCH. But i am glad it wasnt marked for i probably would have passed it up at $12 for 16.9 OZ. Liked their Buried Hatchet Stout, absolutely love this barrel aged version.Beautiful aromas of wood, leather, bourbon, coconut, coffee, milk and dark chocolates and maple syrup. Almost black body with plenty of brownish ruby edges, the head was thin and quickly reduced to a ringed film, leaving the occasional spot of lace. Medium mouthfeel, a touch of stickiness to it. All of the flavors come at you at once, big roasted coffee, nuts, booze, chocolates, bourbon the back side finishes with the mellow woody vanilla bean notes. A half step behind my favorite Goose Island Bourbon barrel aged stout, but still awesome and worth a try, iím thinking about spending $12 more for a head to head this winter
