COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You hold in your hand a stout for stout lovers. Buried Hatchet is brewed with a large quantity of brown malt reminiscent of a traditional pre-Industrial Revolution malt profile. This stout is full of robust, roasted flavors which intermingle with a bittersweet creaminess that concludes to a perfect, warming finish.

Pours a very dark brown with tan head. Cocoa, roasted malt, and some caramel malts on the nose; follows onto the palate. Really just an average stout, nothing special here.

12 oz. can from Greenville Beer Exchange, Greenville, SC. Dark brown cola-like pour with a creamy khaki head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted nuts, and coffee. Smooth, slightly bitter taste of dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, and faint floral hops. Velvety mouthfeel. Nice beer! (Replaces an earlier review from GABF 2009)

Nitro draft pour at HandleBar in Austin. Pours a darkest caramel brown with a khaki head that won't die, as expected with nitro. Aromas are malt, coffee, faint chocolate, caramel. Flavor is roasted coffee beans, malt, and some chocolate milk. Smooth palate but lacking a definitive personality. Smooth drinking with a creamy mouthfeel, likely from the nitro. The 8.3% ABV is well hidden. Good stout, mild and accessible. I'd like to try it on regular tap for a more accurate review.

12oz can. Looks dark brown with some beige foam. Aroma of roasted malts, some chocolate and coffee, light caramel and toffee notes, and light doughy notes. Flavor the same. Average texture. A solid stout.

12 oz. can. Pours a medium, well retained, light beige head with a bit of lacing, over a clear, ruby brown (SRM 30) body.....nose is roasted malts, with heavy coffee, lighter chocolate, hints of dried fruits, mild herbal hop tones....taste is slightly sweet, with dried fruit notes, including raisin, plum, chocolate, heavy coffee, leading to a lightly hopped, bitter coffee finish, balance to the roasted malts.....mouth feel, medium body, slight alcohol warmth, slightly sticky, carbonation low with a soft finish. This is very roasted malt dominated, with the heavily roasted malts in ascendancy. The bitterness is primarily from the roasted malts, with the hops adding a bit of complexity. There is light sweetness which helps balance back the malts. That written, I would prefer a more complex malt back bone. BJCP 7/3/12/4/6

A – Dark brown black color. Nice tan half finger head that sticks and leaves a lot of lacing on the glass. 5 S – coffee, roasted malts, smokiness. 8 T – Coffee, creamer, vanilla, milk, chocolate, roasted malts, smokiness. 9 M – Medium – Heavy mouthfeel. Alc completely covered. Aftertaste is roasty malts and milk. 4 O – This is a great beer that I would have a lot if I could get it where I live. Unfortunately it is only really available in Texas. Would be a great day to day stout otherwise. 16
