You hold in your hand a stout for stout lovers. Buried Hatchet is brewed with a large quantity of brown malt reminiscent of a traditional pre-Industrial Revolution malt profile. This stout is full of robust, roasted flavors which intermingle with a bittersweet creaminess that concludes to a perfect, warming finish.

Pours a cloudy dark caramel color with a short-lived khaki head. Dark malt and cream on the nose. Nice balance among the creaminess, the the dark fruit, the dark malt, and the coffee. Extraordinarily drinkable impy stout.

Can. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate syrup, caramel, roasted nuts), with notes of vanilla, candy sugar, and marshmallow. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively/soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic. A very candyish example...lots of caramel and chocolate syrup, very little roast. Not unpleasant but definitely geared towards folks with a sweet tooth.

12 oz can at Brick House Tavern and Tap with Patty. Dark brown pour, thick khaki colored head, nice lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Bold rich flavor with some of the same coffee and chocolate shining through and a nice roasty essence at the back end. Mouthfeel has a nice chalkiness to it. ABV hidden well.

Can in line for blåbær. Pours brown with a beige head. Aroma of coffee, nuts, toffee, hazelnuts, roasted almonds, caramel and a bit thin smelling overall. The taste has those same notes and is rather roasted and sweet. Thin mouthfeel but still ok.

12oz can (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Snifter at 41°. It’s a deep near black brown with good carbonation and a tight tan head. Aroma is roasted malts with a hint of smoke. Body is full with a lightly sharp mouth feel. Flavor is deeply roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate. After taste is dry with a mild bitterness. Overall its a good stout but it seems a little light for an Imperial.
