4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This was the Nitro version, which really made it good. Roasted malt, coffee and some sweetness on the nose. Very dark with light creamy head. Very creamy and heavy. Low carbonation, which was expected. This added to the smooth character. High roasted malts, coffee, almost burnt but not in a bad way. I liked this better than the canned version. It also hid the alcohol better.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a thick black from the can with thin tan head that lasts and leaves good lace. Aroma of chocolate and roast, a hint of metallic twinge that disappears as it warms, English yeast. Taste follows, big but not boozy, creamy mouth. Not bad.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep dark brown with big tan head. Roasty, chocolately notes dominate the aroma. More of the same in the flavor, slight metallic character. Grainy. Fairly light body.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Fresh can at Borgne. Pours muddy brown with tall brown head. Aroma is light roasted coffee, caramel and chocolate. Taste incorporates those very well with some sweet, breadlike notes. Nothing stands out amongst the flavors but the malt adds nice depth and balance. Creamy and satisfying.

Jacksonville, FL - Grassroots Market - 12 oz can. Dark brown pour, thick khaki colored head, nice lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, some topsoil, Bold, rich flavor with some of the same coffee and chocolate shining through and a nice roasty essence permeating the back end, Mouthfeel has a nice chalkiness to it. ABV hidden well.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
My Bottom Line:
Roasted coffee and chicory surf fruity caramel in this half Imperial Brown Ale, half Imperial Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the dark brown with mahogany highlights.
-The soft bubbling makes the residual sugars feel like a coulis of caramel has been added in the glass.
-This works very well with a piece of steak.
-The finish is roasted malts and vague hop bitterness.
-It sure is flavourful and aromatic, but complexity is low.
-All in all, this is a nice tiramisu-like dessert brew.

D & Q Beer Mart, Houston 4-pack: Pours black with a light brown head that sticks around. Aroma is dark chocolate with an ample amount of roast and some dark coffee. Body is light considering that this beer is 8.25% abv. Nice roasty bitterness all in the taste. Light sweetness. Some nuttiness. Overall quite tasty

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rich deep dark brown body with a nice one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of coffee, rich chocolate, light earthy spices and a bit of nuts - especially pecans. Medium-bodied; Strong rich earthy malts with a lot of depth and a ton of nut flavours. Aftertaste shows a good depth with cacao, rich coffee, earthy malt and a good nutty finish, all with some smooth pit fruit finishes. Overall, a nice and robust stout with some good earthiness and a smooth malty finish, all with some solid sweetness and bitterness from coffee and chocolate. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Palm Beach Gardens on 30-December-2013 for US$2.29 sampled in my hotel room here in Clearwater, Florida on 03-January-2014.
