Rustic,Malty and complex. Displays subtle notes of baked apples and stewed pears in the nose and flavor. Hints of anise and delicate spice.

From draft. Bright orange color with nice head. Aroma is faint spice, dust, yeast. Flavor is kind of complex. Light and smooth but just enough funkiness to make it interesting. Some unfamiliar flavors in here that are difficult to describe. Very drinkable.

Surprised by the low ratings. This is solid. Very nice. A little light on the yeast, but has a pleasant sweetness, and very quaffable. I like it.

Growler thanks to me. Deep amber with a thick cream colored head. Nose is yeast, dried fruits, honey, dough, and sweet. Excellent thickness, flavor is caramel, dough, yeast, light florals, and dried fruits. Great creamy finish.

Can poured at Brewvival 2012. Pours a hazy orange color with a thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toasted malts, stone fruits, coconut, berries and caramel. The taste is toasted malts, citrus, stone fruits and caramel. Medium bodied.

It pours a slightly hazy deep amber with a frothy off-white head. The aroma is malt loaf, cereal, toffee, citrus (orange peel, lime), grassy hops, and peppery spices. Lovely. The mouthfeel is medium to thin, with restrained carbonation and a slightly watery body. It doesn’t quite help convey the aroma into the taste, so the flavors, especially the sugar-derived ones, are slightly weaker. The taste is moderately bitter and sweet. Citrus lingers, a bit like a lime cilantro pepper rub. he alcohol is only perceived as you’re finishing off the glass. Not too hefty, but very pleasant and tremendously drinkable.

Pours brown, like the color of iced tea, with a small off-tan fizz. Smells mildly fruity with a strong caramel, toffee malt base. Taste is less than the aroma, hints of fruit and toffee, but tastes a little off. Medium-bodied with a slick texture and decent mouth-carbonation, Southern Star Le Mort Vivant finishes with a cloying, herbal sort of aftertaste.
