3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A nice aroma - hoppy, but there is a distinct reminder of biscuits and apricot jam in there too. A bad can, but a good looking, foggy, oaky-honey color with a short oatmeal head. Drier than it smells, orange-y flavors, moderately bittered. Biscuity, with a bit of citrus peel. Crackery, English muffin finish with just a bit of chemical. Major flaw was that the beer lost carbonation too quickly. Not bad. Wine World, Panama City Beach.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
16 ounce can
Another so-so product from Southen Star makes me wonder if it is the brewery or the region that lacks any outstanding products. I suspect it might be the former; there have to be some gems lurking in a state as large as Texas. This one though just barely makes the grade.
Aroma and appearance - Lazy carbonation acts as if it too is affected by the steaming temperatures outdoors. The amber body traps the light like a pane of stained glass. Spruce, cedar, and other crisp hops tease the senses. However it gets boring after a while even if it doesnít try to be subtle.
Flavor and palate - A slightly bitter start nips at the palate. Unfolding close behind is a combination of spruce that makes it hard to tell if this is trying to be an IPA and an APA. Either way it has the kick to leave a mark on the back of the throat. For a canned beer it stands out as a promising option for long weekends when you donít want to slum it but canít bring along Oberon or something else in bottles.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours slightly hazed dark amber with a pillowy beige head. Thick, frothy lacing. Aroma consisting of piney and citrus hops, pale and caramel malts, and earth. The taste is rather malty, but with a nice hop bitterness. Well balanced. Medium bodied and smooth. Nice beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Not quite pale, pretty muddy amber. More malty than hoppy, not quite balanced. Aroma is roasty, a little resiny. Lingering finish, not very crisp. Overall a nice beer, but nothing incredible.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
[Can] Pours a reddish amber color with a dense off white head. Nose is of moderate floral hops, dusty and earth malts. Toasted breads, sweet rolls, toffee, pinecones, mild citrus and sweet caramel dominate the taste. Citrus hops really come out in the long and surprisingly bitter finish. Overall quite dry depite the malty flavor profile. Good balance and pleasantly sessionable. Nice!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
can pours carmel with a medium white head. Aroma is nutty malts and crisp grassy hops. Flavor is much the same with toast and breaded malts, finishing with light citrus and grass. Not a bad canned pale ale.

can-slightly hazy copper hue with a small fizzy eggshell head. nose of grains, lite sweet carmel malt and faint piney/earthy hops. i would like to try thsi fresh on tap. flavors of carmel malt, pine y hops and some herbal tea qualities which make this pretty pleasant. i think this would be world class if it was fresh. i would love to try it on tap somewhere in texas. decent pale!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
16 oz. can courtesy of fata2683 - Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a good size one finger thick off white head. Very light lacing. Flavor is a nice balance of hops, light toasted malt, and esters. Aroma is light hops. Medium body. Slight astringent finish. This beer may have been just a little past its prime. Still, a decent beer. Thanks Keith.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
16 oz. can as a bonus from a DLD trade- thanks, Brian! Pours a clear copper color with a big, rocky off-white head that leaves a lot of lace in the glass. Aroma of piney hops, orange and grapefruit citrus, caramel malts, and some earth. Flavor of caramel malts, floral hops, brown sugar, toasted grains, orange citrus, and sweet bread. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a citrusy, malty mouthfeel and dry finish. Not a bad APA.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
This poured a amber color with a white head. Aroma was light stale grassy citrsuy hops with a good bit or caramel malt. Flavor was very disappointing considering what i had heard about this brew. Light hops, but not even very noticable at all, mainlt dominated by 2 row and caramel malt. Not good.
