Pours dark amber with a small offwhite head. Nose is hops and pine. Taste is malt, pine, grass, grapefruit, and moderate hop bitterness. Pretty good stuff.

Can:   Amberish in color, thick haziness, moderate to large frothy off-white head, decent lacing.   Looks the biz.   Soft hop nose, a touch stale tho.   Moreso a caramel and biscuity maltiness.   Some orange peel.   Hmmm... has substance.   Very soft bitterness, a little oaty on the malt side, some cereal and barnish malt presense.   Overall light, thought it would be a bit more flavorful based on the nose. &nbdp Decent, but a little watery, especially towards the finish.   Clean on the exit, not really leaving any lingering bitterness.   Like an Amber and a Pale mixed, but then with a bit of water added.   Yeah, definitely on the lighter side, in body and mouthfeel.   Decent, good nose, but doesn’t deliver to the extent that one might think.

Cloudy orange-amber with some chunky lace and a rocky head. Well-balanced malt-hop combo—slightly sweet (caramel/crystal malt) The flavor is nutty and sweet grain up front. Gives way to bitter hop (peppery). Moderate body. There’s some alcohol warmth in the tasting. Full bodied. Short aftertaste.

Hazy ruby-amber color, big cloudy beige head. Grassy, caramelly, a bit metallic nose. Caramel, pine, some rye, late bitterness. Medium-bodied. Quite caramelly APA.

I was delighted to learn about this new brewery just an hour North of Houston. Finally something around here putting out quality beer. (No offense to Saint Arnold, but they are just not in the same league). This comes in a can, which to me, is entirely irrelevant. Pours a cloudy amber -- darker than many pale ales, with a beautiful tan frothy head. Picture perfect. Flavor is delicious hops, some citrus and resin, and nicely balanced malt. If I close my eyes, I swear this is Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale, which is one my favorite daily drinkers. Nice bitter finish. My new favorite daily pale. Southern Star, you just made another local fan. See you at a brewery tour in the near future.

Friend introduced me to this beer made just a little north of where I live. Great flavor combinations, I enjoy how the malt and hops are in balance and do not overpower each other. I usually do not think of good beers coming from cans, but this beer just goes to prove that you shouldn’t judge something by its packaging.

Was given by a friend that doesn’t drink craft beer. I was pleasantly surprised although the can distracts from the flavor (IMO). Good head, some lace, hoppy, good color and nice on the palate. Would buy again. Hard to believe it’s brewed in Conroe, TX.

Huge hoppy pine aroma with faint citrusy notes and some grass. Pours a dark orangish brown with a thick rocky head. The flavor is rather grassy with some notes of orange .

Poured pale copper and clear with a short white head and average lacing. The aroma was mostly floral and pine hops with some light citrus. The flavor was soapy and floral, a bit of sweetness crept out towards the end. Thin mouthfeel, with a sharp twang towards the finish.
