COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2010 Pro-Am - The Smoked porter is black in color, and has a pronounced smoky nose with accents of chocolate and roast malt. The mouth-feel is full with more smoky flavors giving way to chocolate and caramel. The maltiness of this beer is nicely balanced by using a moderate amount of Pacific Northwest hops.

Scores may be a little harsh due to not being the best smoked porter sampled today. Seemed a little weak and simplistic in comparison. Still a good drink, though.

Starts out just great. Wonderful nose and very good looking, but the first sip is thin as water and the smoky qualities are quite lacking.

On tap at North Texas Beer Festival. Pours dark brown with lasting tan head. Aroma of light chocolate, smoke and dark roast. Flavor is very much the same with a nice malt back bone. Mouth feel is medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, very solid brew!

Black with a nice, lacy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and mild smoke and chocolate. The taste is roasted with a touch of chocolate sweetness and hop bitterness. Slightly ashy and weak in the flavor department. Medium-full bodied and softly carbonated.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2011 Can, courtesy of a friend who shall remain nameless. Pours jet back with multi-finger pillowy, creamy, tan head. Aroma is smoky with chocolate and roasted malts underneath. Tastes smoky and has a nice chocolate and caramel flavor and mild bitterness, no alcohol flavor is present. Full-bodied with a creamy texture and mild carbonation, Southern Star Pro-Am Smoked Porter finishes smooth, smoky, and a weird combination of sweet and dry.

On tap at the Gingerman. Pours with a black body and a thick brown head with good lace. Aromas are huge with coffee, leather, french vanilla, mocha, smoke and dark fruits. Flavors are of mocha, huge coffee, fresh berries, dark fruits, tar, smoke and a dusty/earthy cocoa. Super balanced and very well made. Medium bubbles with a nice lingering richness in the finish. Much richer than you would think with the ABV. A very tasty beer.
