3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle:   Dirty orangish straw, hazy, little to no head, nor lacing.   Smoked aroma, a little meaty, and what I like is no real Band-Aid.   Very subtle on the tongue, comes on quickly but falls off even faster.   A little mealy on the exit.   Feels a bit thin, bordering on thin I should say.   Very light smoke lingers after the finish.   Smells good, but is very soft (too soft) on the tongue.   Seems fairly clean tho.   Thanks Bill!

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
16.9 oz. bottle. Pours a pale golden color. The aroma has smoke which is almost meaty, and grain. The smoke is at a moderate level. The taste brings a rather large wave of meaty smoke which is the dominant flavor. Very much like liquid sausage. This is a pretty good smoked beer and it’s a more drinkable version of the style. It’s also a decent local option for a smoked.

3.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Aroma of smoke and maybe some maltiness. Pours a cloudy orange amber with no head or lacing. The taste, while predominately smoky, is not over the top smoky. Very smooth. I also detect some grains and a surprising, as well as, refreshing hint of citrus. Very nice! Medium body with smooth carbonation. A soft mouthfeel. Overall, I think Southern Star has another winner on their hands! I want to drink this one again.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Happy to see this bottled since I missed it when it was on tap in 2009. Yellow with a white head. The aroma has a lot of charred ash notes with some biscuit malt thrown in. The flavor is similar. I get some smoke and charred character, as well as some sweet biscuit malt. I also get a hint of citrus, which I didn’t expect. The smoke is not overpowering and compliments what appears to be a nice, citrusy blonde ale. Fairly sweet overall. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
