COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Red Cockaded Ale is named after the Red Cockaded woodpecker, an endangered species that makes it home just miles from the brewery.  Portions of the proceeds from the sale of this beer are donated to the Friends Of Texas Wildlife to help raise awareness of this species and other Texas Wildlife. This beer is deep red with a generous dose of malted rye and English crystal malts, giving the malt profile a sticky caramel property and substantial earthiness.  The beer also has massive late charges of Pacific Northwest hops, as well as being generously dry hopped, making this beer intensely hoppy, displaying citrus, pine and resin in both aroma and flavor.

Taste comprises bitter hops, pine, orange pith, bitter grapefruit, caramel malt, light booze. Full end of medium bodied with fine carbonation, hop bitterness in the finish. Good stuff.

Pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a thick and foamy off-white head that diminishes gradually. Sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops and caramel malt. Medium body with flavors of herbal hops, toasted malt and grapefruit. The finish is moderately bitter with a citrusy hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Can:   Deep reddish caramel, thin to moderate foamy tannish head, nice lacing.   Husky aroma, malt forward, strong grainy notes.   Hop side, not so much.   Yeah, really husky on the nose.   Mealy and malty up front, also very husky.   This is a very much malt driven IIPA, but not a clean one.   Soft astringent grainy bitterness follows.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes way to husky and grainy for a Double IPA.   This was a let down... ugh, can’t finish the rest...   Thanks Bill!

Orange with a white head. The aroma is full of pine and toffee. The flavor is similar, with some toffee notes and a ton of sugary sweetness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Definitely not as good as expected. I have another can in the fridge and look forward to re-trying it.
