WALLOON, Southern Starís summer seasonal, (is)a Belgian Grisette. Grisette was a style of beer developed in the 1800s in the Hainaut province of southern Belgium to slake the thirsts of coal and stone miners.

Appearance: hazy medium gold with a short, short-lived off-white head, minimal lacing. (3/5) Aroma: floral, banana and clove, bready yeast, burned rubber. (4/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild bitter, light peppery spice. (5/10) Palate: medium-light body, moderate-low carbonation, off-dry lightly spicy finish. (3/5) Well, if thatís representative of the extinct (or nearly so) grisette style, I think I know why it went extinct. Itís not bad, as such, but it sure isnít good. Hard to say whether itís age or not, since the can isnít dated. In the absence of a date code telling me this thing is past its best-by, all I can say is, donít waste your time. (10/20)

12oz can (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Trappist glass at 42į. Color is a very hazy gold with good carbonation and a nice tight white head. Aroma is a fruity Belgian yeast scent. It has a medium body and a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is yeasty biscuit, fruit and clove. After taste is slightly dry with light banana notes. Overall its a very good brew with nice Belgian notes.

Can, courtesy of a kind soul... shared in a location remote of my dining room.
Pours a hazy blonde with a small head and some lacing on the glass.

The aroma is bubblegum and clove... itís spicy with some husky malt character.

The flavor is floral and spicy with some mildly bitter bits. The beer is moderaltly dry and satisfying enough.

Can that is different than the one pictured. This one says Walloon farm house style ale. Can pours hazy light gold. Nose Belgian spice, clove, slight bubblegum with just a hint of underlying funk. Taste spicy up front, reasonable clove and ester. Mid palate moderate sweet. Spicy finish.

Can. A hazy, orange-golden beer with a small, off-white head. The aroma has a nice blend of pale malts and a generic fruityness, with some faint spiced, peppery hints and some yeast. Itís rather thin on the palate, dry and with a pleasant carbonation. It has a nice and balanced flavor, a bit weak of course, with pale malts, a generic fruityness, some pine cone notes and hints of spices and yeast. Some canned peaches showing up too. Short, mostly fruity finish, with pale malts in the back. Nothing extraordinary going on here, but itís an ideal thirst quencher. 140516
