3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 MrBeerFanatic (508) - jamestown, New York, USA - FEB 22, 2012
Pours dark brown with a little carbonation and a little frothiness. Aromas of sweet roasted malts like caramel, chocolate, light wood, and light molasses. Pleasant flavors of sweet roasted malts, light brown sugar, light hidden floral hops, and caramel. Sweet, lightly thick on the palate (light 2% milk but with carbonation (weird to think about(milk with carbonation mmmm))), alcohol hidden, slight burnt malt aftertaste. My kind of stout.

Bottle pours deep brown with a tan head. Aroma shows chocolate, light to moderate roast, lactose, and some grassy/earthy hops. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of coffee and roasted nuts. Overall body is moderately sweet, lactic, and finishes with some roasted bitterness. Somewhat strange.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Arayaga2 (1439) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 21, 2012
Brown/black with a dense camel colored head. Aroma is sweet spearmint tea with milk. Refreshing, but not quite what I’d expected. Taste is better... more of the same, and very unusual. Herbal Chinese pearl milk tea with a quick roasty edge, and then an odd sweetness into the finish. $2/12oz
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 rodisian (8) - Connecticut, USA - FEB 21, 2012 does not count
Appearance: Dark brown, almost black pour. Small but thick head that dissipates rather quickly
Aroma: Roasty, Coffee notes. faint soy sauce
Flavor: Lots of roastiness, black coffee, low bitterness at first but sticks around after the swallow and builds to a medium bitterness. some alcohol bite
Mouthfeel: medium carbonation, quite tingly
Overall: Probably my first brew from Southern Tier that I wouldn’t purchase again. For a double milk stout with lactose I was hoping for a sweeter, creamier beer
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 FishBizkit (84) - Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 18, 2012
Southern Tier is a reliable brewery, and as decent as this brew is, it just doesn’t seem quite right in my mouth hole.
It pours a beautiful toasty mocha brown. I got no head, even after i had the bottle about a foot off the glass for the last quarter of the pour.
The nose is standard port. Toasty malt, mocha, caramel.
Palate is a bit odd. It has a bit of an alcohol bite mixed with minimal bubbles. The toastyness comes out, but is followed by a big metallic, fishy, baconesque oddness that i didn’t care for. Maybe it’s just me... i don’t mind drinking it, but it’s not my favorite.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lithp (33) - Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 17, 2012
UPDATED: FEB 18, 2012 I love Southern Tier brewery, but this isn’t my favorite brew of theirs.
Pours an opaque black, with a small tan head. Not much aroma.
Tastes of slight chocolate, roastiness, and a little malty. Chalky mouthfeel.
Not too bad, but I’ve had better stouts.

Bottle. Black pour with a short, dense tan head. Aroma is slightly smoky with dark chocolate, burnt coffee and faint sour milk. Taste is big chocolate notes, coffee, burnt caramel, roasted malt, light lactic tartness, soft smokiness and faint dark fruit notes. Body is medium and slightly chewy with dense, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, soft smoke and light lactic tartness.

Pours black with a dense 1/2" head. Lightish aroma of cream, chocolate malt and a little hops. Medium to full bodied with a smooth, creamy chocolate palate. Tasty.
